The funny thing is that if you go on the rolex website and type these names in the search field, most of the watches will come up - I have tried panda, batman, rootbeer, pepsi, kermit...all these come up.

There is no batgirl & bluesy though....

Smurf is my favorite name in the Rolex world. Snoopy is very cool on the Omega side of things. I guess kids cartoons have a strange appeal for me

I hate every nickname ever given to a Rolex,

call them by what they are, Submariner, Explorer, DateJust, GMT etc.

I guess that shows Rolex Inc is not as uptight about nicknames as some on the Rolex forum.

I’m just sayin.

Rolex: Here is our new watch. It is the CHNR which stands for chocolat noir which is French for "chocolate black" or "dark chocolate" as it would be called in English.

Rolex fanboys : Yeah! Whoooo! Root Beer, dude. It's a new ROOT BEER!!! Whooooooooo....

All those serious Rolexforum posters that hate on nicknames, make sure to put your complete name as your username. Since you are so against nicknames.

Batgirl nickname is my favourite by far. The amount of men who are horrified by the name really tickles me. Batman. Sure thing. Butch manly. Batgirl. Ohmygod how can I take photos and post with pride now!

I'm the same - I love this name for how much insecurity it exposes.

Your type of take on the name batgirl has been the funniest of them all. Whenever threads on this subject come up and there have been plenty recently there is always a handful of guys and that step in and challenge everyone’s masculinity. They are so anxious to step in and be politically correct and show everyone just how up-to-date they are that the real reason most people dislike the nickname completely eludes them. The name was created out of anger, disappointment and hatred for the new model and it’s a new bracelet and has nothing to do with your New Age chivalry and desire to appear like you are hip with the times. Defending women’s honor is something most honorable for sure. However it’s always better when it’s legitimate and more importantly applicable.

There’s just too many numbers to memorize. If that’s your thing I have no problem with it and I certainly won’t criticize you for it or say that it’s selfish on your part making everyone take extra time to figure out what it is you are talking about. Why don’t we try to as a forum post both the model name and reference number together? That way everyone’s happy. I truly don’t think using nicknames is childish it’s just easier. In fact out of all the nicknames there is only one I can think of that was created in a bad way but not to be childish. It was created out of anger, hate and distain for the jubilee bracelet. Other than that all the rest of the nicknames seem pretty harmless.
Sorry cannot 100% agree with you myself now almost 77 and in quite poor health and been around Rolex watches for over 50 years and over those years massed a great amount of Rolex knowledge. And in all that time never felt the need to use todays rather silly nicknames for watches. Yes way back even myself used Pepsi and Coke for insert colours on watches like 16710. But today especially over the past 5 years or so some of these nicknames for watches are getting ridiculous. If I can identify most all Rolex watches by there reference numbers at 77, why cannot todays so called watch enthusiasts do likewise.

I have no problem with working on that. I definitely know all the models and variances now. I will personally work on learning the model numbers as well. I agree with you it’s a good idea. Just for doing research its a good idea. However I’m sorry my friend I will always like the names Pepsi, Coke and hulk. To me they are names of respect and heritage.

The way the world is now with social media people want to be able to instantly recognise what a certain item is and nicknames allow this right or wrong it happens, a different analogy (although not a nickname) is a 911 Porsche, apart from the Porsche world it’s a 911 not a 993/996 etc.

I'm a watch enthusiast myself and I really hate the nicknames.
I prefer to use the original names given by Rolex and I like to know and use the ref.no. of those models.

Wow! It only took you 50 years to memorize all the ref numbers? Why can't everyone be like this guy.

OK, this has been bugging me; dyslexic typing... 116506 not 115606.

Anything that happens organically over time doesn't bother me too much. But any new release now has a poll of "what are we going to call it". That stuff is awful.
