Not bored. Just satisfied with my collection and have no new Rolex on my radar. One thing I'm very happy about is that I bought and worked pretty hard on my collection when I did. My last new Rolex was bought in Oct.'18 a Blnr from my AD at msrp, tax incl. Since then I bought mostly used incl a 16710, 14060M, Omega PO & SMP and last Dec. a new VC Overseas 4500V to top it all off, with a good discount too. yeaah..

I’ve been flirting with other brands for a while now but keep coming back to Rolex. What makes Rolex no fun anymore is these over inflated prices for watches only worth $8 grand. You could get sub ND just a few years ago for $6500 if you wanted to explore it for a while than flip it for another flavor if it didn’t sing long term. Nowadays all you can get are Datejusts at retail. Everything else is just crazy over inflated and I’m never going to pay over retail for anything. No AD inventory and gray and preowned Subs going for $14k is just stupid. You’d have to be a real schmuck to pay that. So for me the fun is over. And Rolex broke Rolex.

Yes, many are so terribly bored of Rolex that the moment a popular Rolex model becomes available at MSRP they would instantly drop whatever purchase plans they had for whatever other brand and go straight for the Rolex.

I’m happy it’s been difficult to get any SS pieces for the last few years. It’s given me the opportunity to try GS - picked up the SBGH269 and could not be happier with it!

For the forty years that I've been into watches I've had many obstacles in my way. In my younger years I couldn't afford 'grail' pieces, even when that grail was only a calculator watch when I was 10yrs old, so I had to drool over magazines (before the internet beamed pictures instantly into your hand).
I never got bored with that. Then when I could afford some of the pieces that I wanted there was sometimes a problem getting them, because I tended to like things that weren't always popular or available. I never got bored with that either. And now I can afford five figure price watches, but they often aren't available to me. It can be frustrating, but I'm not bored with it. Fortunately for me I don't like the coloured bezel Rolex watches with cartoon names, so that hype has completely passed me by. So I guess I'm not bored yet, although I'm not an avid watch nerd, I just like them and it's been a slow burn over decades, and I haven't always been able to get what I wanted. |

Bored of Rolex
it’s a game of supply and demand, and everyone is able to buy any model in the open market at market price. not sure where the negativity came from. Rolex is not the problem, it’s the market.

Yes they are. They allowed ADs to sell their stock to resellers. People were walking into ADs buying 20 Subs at a time and moving that stock overseas. Rolex makes 800,000 watches a year. That’s insanely high. It comes down to the same demand but supply is throttled by resellers. And as prices skyrocketed demand went up because people think they’re investments like stocks. Zero interest in the brand and watches themselves.

Nope. Bought myself a Rolex in college that was stolen, and when I later decided to get back deep into watches I went the PP, AP, etc route. Owned a number, of all types, and found myself bored with each within ~a year selling them off soon after.
Had an old 'used' Sub I wore off and on that I grew to appreciate more and more over time, for reasons different than what motivated my first Rolex purchase years before. Then my nephews became old enough to start getting into watches and they sparked me back into it. I'd always told my nephews each could have a new Rolex or whatever was on my wrist, and the oldest nabbed my old Sub. That resulted in my SubC, and a renewed appreciation for the watch and the brand. I have at least two more purchases in my future for whenever my other two nephews decide to call in that marker. I may buy myself an OP tiffany or silver, perhaps a Platona, maybe I'll replace that President that was stolen so long ago. I like the BB58 as well, but need a twist to get me off the ledge for one. I'm more of a wearer than a collector. I am in no hurry and expecting the secondary market to eventually regress to the mean. We'll see. |

My first Rolex, a submariner, retailed for around $1,000. My car was $5,000 and my home was $50,000. The year was 1979. Now a Sub is what, just over $9,000 and a similar home to my first one is $200,000. I think it’s called inflation!? Imo, houses and cars have gone up in price the most.

I’m not really bored with Rolex. I just have most of what I want from Rolex. I’m easing off of collecting in general. Most of the other things I want are very hard to get. Aside from the pieces I mentioned earlier. I want AP RO jumbo extra thin. That’s also hard to get. I competed with a lot of other wealthy people to get the pieces I have, and the idea of continuing to compete with all these other wealthy people just nauseates me. I love what I have acquired and I’m just gonna enjoy it now.
I’m really having a hard time understanding some of the forum posters telling other members that they only want items because other people want them. How do you know why people do what they do. Some people on this forum act like they are the only ones with fiscal sense or common sense. |

The multi year waitlist for entry level models is pretty boring no way around that. I'd prefer they just make limited edition models for people to hypeflex over and make a lot more basic stuff for average Joe's who don't care about hype.

I will also add that I started this process three years ago and it took a while to acquire everything. I would not even start the process as a newbie under these current conditions. I think what everybody needs to understand is it may not even matter if you spend 100,000 with your A.D. because someone could come in a month later and spend 200,000 and now they are ahead of you. So all newbies really just have to ask themselves is it really worth it for some watches.

I wouldn’t say I’m bored of Rolex. However, I get more enjoyment wearing my Casio GShock DW5600-BB. And I have other brands that I enjoy too.

What other brands excite you? I ask myself the same question and can’t come up with much better.

Well I have the three that I want as stated earlier the BLNR, LVC and LNC. A friend of mine who owns a shop offered me a ceramic Daytona at grey price and I said no. He also had a WG BLRO which I also turned down. So I wouldn’t say it’s that I can’t get the watches. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is a legit question. The latest watch I bought was the Seiko 5 street fighter watch. TBH this one kind of got me excited. It’s only 500 bucks and it has some great novelty value as I loved the Video game as a kid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm not bored with Rolex, I think it's a great watch, but I am tired of the AD games and lack of supply.

My first Rolex in 1985 was $700 for a Datejust 16014. I thought it was the coolest thing in world. Now many years later and several Rolex later, it's just not as exciting. I still love the watches, but the same basic bezel designs seems lacking.
I think a lot of the allure is not being able to get what is supposed to be what everyone wants. We are definitely being played! High demand, low supply and huge marketing. Entry level sports watches are $10K and you can't get them. Think of all the toys you can buy for $10k and you don't have "develop a relationship" with an AD. I'm getting to the point where I don't care if my AD calls. Rolex watches are highly regarded, but won't necessarily stand the test of time. Will they go the way of the 8 track, reel to reel tape players or even the internal combustion engine? Does the latest generation care about spending a significant portion of their income on a mechanical watch? Will they want the Gold Submariner that you revere and have passed on to them or prefer to have the latest video game? What is regarded as cool changes. I have always loved watches. The technical aspect to me is amazing. I still want a Daytona for some strange reason? Help Me! Just some food for thought. |
