I feel bad for anyone who paid big money over MSRP for that watch. Like every new Rolex watch, it is hot for a year then "ho hum" it's old yesterdays news.

I love my GMT II C. It too can be found every where. It is nothing like it used to be (rare and uncommon). Rolex made too many to quickly. I feel the same about this watch as well.

Made me wonder, is the MSRP still around $6700?

Pics coming as soon as I get my camera working again :) Want fresh ones to show

Dennis, if your Dad has the GV you should ask him to swap

I have a GV waiting for me to collect personally I LOVE them and in person WOW they are somthing to behold.
So for me it's a no brainer I simply must have one, but thats me you should buy a watch only for yourself, all this will it wont it be collectable is hit and miss. Again my opinion on this is as follows, if it stays hard to get great if its just a fad great there be less around in the future. Win Win, but agian thats just my opinion

People naturally want what they cant have, and that alone, I believe, was the driving sales force of the Green Milgauss (in general, the majority of the time). Once there was enough produced to satisfy all prospectors, collectors and speculators, the GV had to stand on its own merit. Sad to say, demand for it has decreased significantly, though it is still hard to come by new in various markets thoughout the world. I believe (my own speculation here) that the GV will be as common one day as the LV in AD's. I think this perception shared by the general public (though not true today, but to be true in the near future) has speed up the GV's decrease in demand.

That all being said, it is a lovely watch with a very daring design for a Rolex. I dont think Rolex ever intended the GV Milgauss to be the next Steel Daytona Cosmograph, and as such, never intended on limiting production for this watch in the long term. Rolex usually has a 3 year roll out period for any new watch (18kt, TT & steel), but this wasn't the case for the GV. Rolex had to overcome a new green crystal obstical in a shorter period of time, and them being the perfectionists that they are, would not release any GV's that were not up to their high standards. Now whether this was clever marketing or not, to me, doen't really matter. Its completely believable to me that it took Rolex this long to acheive the level of production they wanted for the GV, at Rolex standards. And once they increased production, it was no longer at "Steel Daytona" status.

(Good thread by the way. )

Great comment Chris - agree 100%!

I think the Milgauss is a good watch. I went to my AD last week, and they are not selling at all! The GV with the green is popular, but the white and black dials are not selling at all.

I would buy the black dial if I was offered a good discount, at least 35%.

I have never been a fan of them, which is also similar to the LV.
Just my own personal opinion.

still of interest but more so from the for sale section here or TZ ro WN. would probably love it more if it were all brushed vs. polished.

I had an interest in a GV at one time, but now feel that a SS DJ with an Oyster Bracelet (116200) or a SS DJII would better suit my purpose. Besides having a date feature, there are endless dial options and the price is much better.

You guys complaining about a date feature crack me up. Is it really that hard to remember what day it is?

BTW, once the haters see one in person and out in the sun; they will understand the GVs true beauty.

IMO, the green crystal adds another big unique feature to the uniquely designed Milgauss, making it more desirable and valuable to those who like it. That's what USPs - unique selling propositions, are all about in marketing, isn't it? There again, value is in the eyes of the beholders. Personally, I find the GV very attractive.. it's stunning under the sun, the green crystal makes the GV a striking beauty...

just yesterday I went and picked up this from my AD - just had to have it - IMO it is the perfect Milgauss and adds a really different feel. Love wearing it and can easily be dressed up or down. The Green didn't have the same appeal for me. (apologies .. pic taken with iphone):
