I love the Speedmaster on dry land but honestly something simple like, jumping in and out of pools or splashing around on a beach, thrashing around enjoying family water sports, I just couldn't feel confident, it's not it's environment.
I'd like to think of durable and reliable watches to be ones that can perform in both spectrums thinking like what mechanical watch would Bear Grylls wear(he uses a Luminox most often).
Agree about water resistance; no water on the moon.

I think many are as robust, but can’t think of any guaranteeing +/- 2sec or warranty will correct. That’s where the separation is in my opinion.

Omegas Metas guarantee 0 -+5 sec on a cased watch which is virtually amagnetic at 15000 gauss. I think it’s a more stringent standard plus it’s conducted outside of Omega so no internal bias.
From experience the 3235 hasn’t inspired a lot of confidence with me but I think it’s a promising movement as they develop it more.

My Rolex's are nowhere as near tough as my <$200 Seiko SKX007. I've dropped that watch from my gym locker face down and it didn't even get a scratch. However, refined the Seiko is not..which is the reason why I haven't worn it in years.

But it's hard to beat Rolex's robustness if you want a luxury watch. I wouldn't hesitate to wear any of my Rolex's rain or shine and that's what I love about it.

Sinn and Seiko make strong and great watches mechanically too but not as durable as Rolex.

I’m a little bit of an anomaly on this forum, in that I am into watches, and not necessarily into all models of Rolex and certainly no one here would accuse me of being a fanboy. The reality is all models of all brands have their pros and cons. My sub was gifted to me some 20+ years ago and has been on my wrist more days than not over that span and has been with me in some of life’s happiest and saddest moments. So that’s why I bother with Rolex. That said, I don’t give them a pass as the vast majority here do. For example, GS finishing and accuracy are on par and the finishing exceeds Rolex. In fact, someone recently posted side by side macro shots of a GS dial and PP dial, and GS won that one as well. People can point to the Gs bracelet as a weakness, but the reality is all bracelets are held together by pins. The only thing I can’t speak to is the robustness of the GS movements, but their accuracy is beyond reproach.

For me, I got into Rolex in the 90’s and as prices have gone up, they have lost some value proposition in my eyes, though tudor has stepped into that role while Rolex goes up stream.

I mentioned the toughness of Panerai carbotech but that was addressing the watch exterior. I will say in terms of the mechanical, I also find Panerai extremely robust and accurate compared to my other watches. Because the carbotech is so durable, I wear this watch for everything and it has taken its share of knocks. The time keeping is unbelievable and these shocks and jolts have not affected the accuracy at all so far.

Great to see praise on other watches on a Rolex forum. I always thought here people are blindfolded by Rolex and look down on other brands (which are sometimes in my opinion even better)
But great to see it's not the case. Greetings to all TRF

The Milgauss only goes up to 1,000.
There was an article where someone tested a Milgauss and it stands up to much more than 1000 gauss. The name hasn't changed, but the materials and silox mainspring make it able to stand well over 1000 now. I think they got up to 6000 or more before they tester chickened out (it was his personal watch).

“Tough” is tough to define...

I can attest to Ball and Marathon for their shock resistance. Explorer also comes to mind but to a lesser degree in terms of G’s.

Ball and Milgauss both endure intense EMI fields.
