Excellent question. Well, the very first time I put it on, I thought, “ok it’s simpler, but it’s cool, maybe”... The overall disappointment became clear perhaps the day after. I won’t defend myself. It was indeed a childish and impulsive mistake to have bought it. Glad I fixed it by selling the watch instead of keeping something I would ‘never’ wear. For the record, I not a flipper (at all). This was the first time and hopefully last that something like this happened to me.

Gotcha. Makes sense, and it seems you made the right choice moving it. I tend to almost overthink my watch purchases, so by the time I buy I have stared for hours in person and in photos as well as multiple test drives (try on).

The differences between the professional line and the OP are in the details of the finishing and are not easy to explain, but the minute you put it on, the ‘emptiness’ of the OP was for me too hard to cope with. I just wanted to take it out immediately and put back on one of my Daytonas, APs or PPs. I should never have bought it.
This could simply be due to the big empty dial, same reason why I cant wear the new 39mm explorer 1.

I have a 34mm air-king and it feels just as well finished as my Sub 114060.

Great thread!

116500 Daytona black dial
16570 Explorer II Polar

Love both in photos, not at all on wrist!

Not hate the watch but rather hate the fact that the watches I loved in pictures looked too small on my wrist. It was sad not to be able to pick one for that reason, all modern models: GMT, SUB, DJ41.
The the SA advised me to check their big boys. The DeepSea looked way to tall and dial too deep, the YM looked too busy and finally the SD43 too perfect.

Tudor Black Bay. I tried one on and knew immediately I didn’t want one. It felt too big.

Daytona

It is more akin to an item of jewellery to me - A great looking watch, but the cluttered and hard to read dial just agitates me.

Tudor BB 41 face too big, BB 36 too small; a BB 39 would be perfect.

I had the same experience with the Cartier Tank MC. I still love the look, but not on my wrist shape.

I sold it.

black bay chrono s&g - I was totally in love with that watch seeing reviews and videos over interne - went to try and buy at Rolex Boutique and I was unimpressed putting on my wrist so I passed, very disappointed- still like it in photos tough

Black bay 41 black - felt somehow cheap on my wrist so moved out - like it before in reviews and photos

Not a fan of square watches at all but those JLC's are very nice.

Milgauss for me. Love the look, truly a great watch, but just felt out of character when I tried one on. Shiny and large.

Sea-Dweller Deep Sea. Had to have it...until I put in on and realized what a tank it is.

16570 polar. Loved it in photos, tried it on in a store and the dial felt way too small. I was bummed.

Fast forward a year, I have the 216570 polar and it is absolutely perfect. Now I know why Rolex upped it to 42mm.

Same- a friend let me try on his polar. I think it was the 16570 (he didn't know). I thought i looked too small on my wrist as well. Good looking watch but not for me.

Mine was an Omega Seamaster that started pulling my wrist hair the moment I put it on and pulled it as long as I had it on. Gave it to my brother who has no arm hair, which I'm covered with. Guess I didn't try it on at the store and thought I could live with it for love of the watch. Nope. lol

Very funny, highly entertaining thread. For me, I just hope I won't forget for the second time that I can't pull off a DSSD. Just can't. Trying on a friend's recently who'd added two (?) extra links will help keeping my eyes open.

Cheers

16600, still could not get used to wearing it after 6 years. It had to go eventually.

Love and hate are pretty strong emotions. I wasn't fond of my 114060 on the wrist as it looked big and felt awkward. I've also moved on a number of watches as I experienced them and found I fell out of love. I've yet to hate a watch I've owned but just didn't love them enough to want to keep them.

I had the very opposite happen to me with the Daytona. Never really cared for it in pics, tried one on and LOVED IT!
