Prefer the variety of a few over one pm model.

Steel is simply the better metal. More durable, lightweight, and looks better in just about every circumstance. YG / RG might be better on a dress watch (accompanied by alligator strap), but for a daily piece or for a sports watch, it needs to be steel.

As it turns out, SS is more rare than PM. Just look in any display case at an AD. Even SS entry models among the classic line (OP, DJ) have become allocation pieces. But you could always order the two-tones. So which one is the real "precious" metal?? Give me a break.

Market seems to agree with me. SS Daytona costs more than any of the YG versions... there's a reason for that. Talking about the secondary / gray market, of course.
So much misinformation in one post, I don’t even know where to begin.

4 all stainless. More durable over time and ages better.

I like to have different options so I’m going to say 4 SS pieces over 1 PM.

One PM + three SS seems like a nice ratio. So if you have to choose from your scenario I'd go 4 SS.

Even when I have multiples I tend to focus on one. For me at this moment, only one watch gets worn much and that’s my BLRO. My BLNR etc basically just sit in the watch box.... Maybe it’s because the BLRO was always THE Rolex for me. Maybe it’s because the two GMT’s are just too alike. Maybe I find the BLNR monotone in comparison, but I find myself not even considering anything else in the morning. Dunno, I think to get any wrist time, my next piece will have to be very different. Or will I someday consolidate into a wg blue dial Pepsi?

I prefer stainless steel watches to gold. They are lighter, more comfortable and more robust. Good thing is stainless steel is cheaper than gold too.

I sold a TT Sky-Dweller and am in the process of trying to sell a TT Zenith Daytona to fund my purchase of the WG blue dial Daytona I couldn’t pass up when it was offered to me a month ago. It’s an awesome watch. But I’m for sure keeping my DSSD JC 126660 and 126710 BLRO, both of which I really love, and thoroughly enjoying wearing all three (along with my 1803 YG Stella dial DD). Not sure, then, how I answer your question. 1 + 2 = 4, maybe?

ironically the marketing works in the opposite way you mentioned, steel goes up because of social media flexing
I agree with you on this

Thank you all for the great responses! Always good info from this forum.

The 1 PM for me will be a blue dial WG Daytona or the new meteorite OF Daytona

Great GMTs ! I know BLRO is definitely more popular. But I actually like BLNR more, I do like the fact it looks “ monotone” . That’s just me

Good thing about Rolex is as each 2-3 generations of improvements pass, the new SS looks worthwhile to upgrade. Just think about how far the bracelet for the sub has come along.
Agreed

Can we get more info on the choices? I’m wondering what PM you’re thinking about and what are these 4 SS (in a world where those 4 SS are even available).

The right four SS watches could give you a lot of options. On PM would be nice but not sure I want only want one watch.

The DD doubles as arm weights, put one on to each arm as walking around town to tone up the arms!
