That’s a moot point for me because I end up winding automatics too. If you go a week or so without wearing it, you have to wind it anyway. I suppose I could get a winder, but I just haven’t felt compelled to do so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Interesting thread. Not against chronographs, I own some. Deep down I am more fond on tool watches like divers, because diving is more appealing to me then flying or racing. But only submersibles in the collection would be dull.

Yeahbut.. Once on the wrist autos don't need to be wound like a manual does.

Yep, I’m the same. I have absolutely no need or want for a chronograph. If I need to do any critical timing I’d use my phone as imo that’s going to be far more accurate. I do appreciate the movement but the (again, imo) dial always seems cluttered and the sub dials are too small and difficult to read. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones who doesn’t lust after a Daytona…at least I’ll never be disappointed not being able to get one at retail!

Um...make you angry?
While I'm not a chrono guy at heart, there's a few that have found their way into the collection. And, even if they hadn't, I don't think any watch is capable of making me 'angry,' lol. |

I find them fun and interesting to look at, like a nice piece of art, but difficult to read and deal with when it comes down to just wanting to know what time it is at a glance.

Nothing about a Chrono appeals to me--cluttered dial, hard to read with my fading pilot eyes and I have no use for the functionality. Now a GMT on the other hand..........obsessed! I'm delighted so many like Chronos--leaves more GMTs for me!

This is the exact reason I don't get the obsession with the Daytona. Put them next to a speedy and the design is no where near as good.
Odd considering how class leading the design is from the rest of the Rolex portfolio Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk |

Ding ding ding! Winner post. Though the pic isn’t that great,IMO it shows the uniqueness of the speedy ( simplicity and form following function) vs the SEA of chronographs that blend into the crowd.

Ascetically i love the look of the Daytona (wish it had a date) and I have a Moonwatch for the history. If my SA said they had a Daytona for me i would happily whip out the plastic! But, i really have no use for a chrono...ever. I always use the countdown feature on my iPhone first. Because i need it to alarm to remind me when to flip the steaks....haha.

I have nothing against chronos, I just can't read the sub dials clearly on most them without my reading glasses, and I never seem to have these with me when I'm out and about and might need to time something. So what would be the point? The timing bezel on my old everyday Sub 14060 does it all for me if I need it, and I can read the old aluminium bezel fine...

Its a 1990s thing, when chronos (largely Valjoux 7750) were promoted by magazines like GQ or, yes, "Playboy" as the bees knees for "gentlemen".
Add a faux-patina'ed bomber leather jacket and Davidoff Cool Water. |

I've owned two, but hardly ever used the chronograph function on either one. Both the Breitling Navitimer/Cosmonaute Ref 809 and the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster are nice pieces, but I never really warmed up to them like I did my 1675 GMT-Master which got nearly all of my wrist time.

Thank you; yes, it is a special watch. Since I wasn't wearing it, I had it serviced then gifted it to my nephew when he graduated from law school and passed the bar on his first try. He loves it.
The display case back shows a drool worthy movement.

I no longer own a Chronograph, and as many others have said, have no need for one. I do appreciated the movement and technology. Fortunately , I do not lust for a Daytona. I never say never about owning another, but for now I'm good without one.

I got a Speedy because every good collection is supposed to have one. I have never really bonded with it though. I have very little use for the chronograph function. I use it to time how long I have to wait in line at the post office, but I almost always forget to stop the chronograph to actually see how long it took! A dive bezel works just as well for timing for me. I don't usually need to time anything to the second.
I did put the Speedy on a flat link bracelet and like it more, but still don't "love" it. Someday my AD may allot me a Daytona, but again I think I'll be getting it just to make my collection more complete. |

well it is true that there is no legit use case for a chrono.
but then again, there is no real use for any luxury watch, right? you can just use your iphone / smart watch etc. mechanical watches don't exist in 21st century for function, but rather for enjoyment of wear. (history, movement, looks, whatever) I just like the way chrono looks on certain watches. for example, I prefer AP RO chrono to AP RO, since the sub dials fill up the dial nicely and it just looks more proportioned than the non-chrono for an AP. also, I challenge any serious watch collector not to be wowed by ALS Datograph. the thing is a stunning work of art. |

Don’t like chronos at all. As said above too many buttons, which are never used. The lack of the second hand and date. For me a big no! Love the rotating bezels and the function of the GMT for example, it’s useful and so much more appealing

I don’t hate Chronos, but I don’t love them either. I prefer a dual time watch.

Every time I ....
Buy a Chronograph, I end up selling it.
I have little use for one and when it comes time for service, watch out! They are far more expensive to overhaul. Plus, anyone damage a movement by a small drop or hit? They are precision machines with many more parts than a normal auto movt. Yep, A Speedmaster would be the only one I would want at this point and mostly because of the storied history of the Space Program. |

I have a 73 Speedy that sits in a pouch. I should move that along for someone to wear and enjoy. I haven’t worn it in two years. I’ve just found that I like the elegance of an uncluttered simple three hand watch. It’s great that we have variety and choice.

I LOVE my Speedmaster, but that's my only chronograph. I too, generally prefer 3 handers...but the Speedmaster defies logic for me... It's also bigger than I like...but I just love it.
