Insurance companies make billions for a reason. Chances of getting robbed are slim unless you're flaunting all over the internet.

“Those 600lb safes will walk out the door”

Quote of the year.

Unless brad Pitt and Clooney are breaking into your house,
If a thief sees a 600lb safe bolted down, they’re prob going on to the next house.

And reminder, 98% of robberies are smash and grabs. That’s a made up stat but prob pretty true.

They’re coming in, rummaging in main drawers, and getting out.

Insure your watches, and enjoy.

A 600 pound safe that isn't bolted is not secure for several reasons, IMHO. The first is that it can potentially be stolen outright. It's not common, but it does happen. Years ago I had a few clients that said they had medium-larger safes stolen. Beyond that, someone could move it into a position that makes it easier to attack (e.g., to get better leverage, or easier access to one of the weaker 5 sides.) If it is a large safe (dimensionally speaking) and it only weighs 600 pounds, it really does not have much armor, so you really want to be sure that it is installed optimally and it cannot easily be moved to another position. Additionally, if it isn't bolted, and a criminal tips the safe over/shoves it down some stairs/etc, the contents, your home, and the safe can all sustain more damage than might be sustained if anchored (that even applies to a high security safe as this could easily damage the lock and even potentially engage a relock device, at which point the safe needs to be drilled and serviced). Finally, there is also a personal safety aspect to this. There is a lot of weight on the door and especially with (the overwhelmingly vast majority of) gun safes, there isn't a lot of armor (therefore not a lot of weight) on the other 5 sides. You don't want it tipping over. Even if it is a 2,000 pound safe, it should be anchored IMHO.

With respect to most robberies being smash and grabs, I agree. However, that means very little should the day come that you need a safe capable of withstanding either a breach attempt or a serious fire. Sure, there is insurance, but a good, true safe can prevent ever having to go through that process, and it can protect items that insurance cannot replace. That is just my personal take and YMMV.

I lived in a building, once I had a watch stolen as forgot to put it in my 300#’s safe as had taken a red eye, found a leak in bathroom and had to call for emergency engineer service, at the same time my office needed me that morning and had to run to work. Didn’t notice until a couple of days when went back into safe a watch was nowhere to be found.

We knew bldg engineer but couldn’t find proof (we did call police/ report) it but was fired after lots of petty theft meir happening in building.

Insurance paid.

Still a heavy safe is a must so you can wear/rotate.
Housekeeper being coming in for years yet she has a “crew” soU don’t leave anything out (jewlery/money/watches out)

A Fire is alway by a worry in building.

It's a sign of the times and is sort of thing is just going to increase.

Document all of your paperwork digitally (receipts, Rolex warranty card) and store one copy in your bank sdb and the other on a secure cloud server.

Photograph your collection even if only 1 watch. Details to show condition from many angles. Be very sure to capture clearly the serial number(s)!

Now insure them all and then wear them but be aware when you wear because others might be noticing your watch for less than horological reasons.

Yes, my watches, as well as my wife's jewelry, are all insured. So if the Hulk did decide to break into my house and 'walk off' with my 600 lbs safe, we're covered.

A new trend is for more professional thieves to use metal detectors and stud finders to quickly scan for metal/gold thats hidden.

So it depends on if the thief is an opportunistic chancer or more professional with a good understanding of what they are targeting.

Careful going out of NYC nightspots with your cuban link necklaces and Richard Mille, or Rainbow Daytona: Armed robbery with guns and driving off in a Mercedes!

Maybe leave home without it?

when i was a kid i remember our house had a paneled wall with a removable panel
in our recreation room. It just looked like a regular wooden wall panel. BUT... you could remove it and put valuables in there. we always put jewelry and extra cash in there
all the time.... especially when we went on family vacations. It always worked.

someone i knew had a set up like that on the floor with a rug over it. lol

of course.... no fire protection for any of this ...but.... it worked ok at the time.
