Cannot see for the life of me why anyone would be embarrassed asking for any Rolex watch. Although the Daytona is a good watch is just a watch nothing more, and it must one of the most over hyped Rolex watches ever. But hype sells watches today as many buy the hype to wear, its been hard to get at retail since its launch way back in 2000.And over those 20 plus years there has been a few cosmetic changes, but still basically the same 20 year old watch, so there must be a few million of them around in this world today.

Exactly. Not like you are asking to buy their first born.

Yep. Got a few myself. Least worn I own. Hard for me to switch from a 42mm down to any I have. Just wears way to light and small for me. But like many here I got caught up in the hype and wanting something hard to get. As Padi stated the Daytona is a great watch but its not the end all be all of watches.

Granted if I get the call for a full PM I'm all in

Doesn't hurt to ask. But I get your position - I'd like one too and haven't bothered asking because I assume I'm not Daytona worthy, simply because I don't have, and will never have the kind of spending history required. For that matter, I'd like a Pepsi GMT, but doubt I'd even get that, but I might ask anyway next time I'm there.

Embarrassed to ask for ss Daytona

It's fascinating how much power Rolex has as a brand. Here we are begging them to take our money for their products. To the point where we're even embarrassed to ask for said item. Crazy times indeed...

This is so true!! I know it all sounds so ridiculous but I don’t want to mess up this ‘relationship’ that I have with the store, I know this watch gets offered to big customers and VIP spenders and I’m neither of these that’s why I’m a bit embarrassed guys, I can just imagine all the sales people laughing at the back saying look who thinks getting a Daytona. The guy has looked after us we are going up there the weekend, I’m going to go for it either the Daytona or the blue dial skydwller and I’ll let you know how I get on

My aunt and uncle have just brought a Rolex DJ each and another 2 the week after for there kids, when they asked the AD when he can get the watch she really wants he replied with ‘your one step closer’ it’s when you hear stuff like this you dare ask for any of the goodies

Yup! Not saying you're wrong because I feel that same exact guilt/anxiety when I ask for a hot piece. It's just so fascinating how much of a hold they have on us and our obsession with the Rolex brand lol

Daytona availability is not about Rolex or simple watch purchase — you are missing a point here.

You are purchasing something which has 3X value the minute you walk out of AD. Scarcity and difference in value ADs use to their advantage and indirectly tell you — if I give you opportunity to buy this watch, what do I get out of it? Another happy customer?? Lol

Its very easy for them to decide on customer, just go down the spending list of loyal customers and highest gets first pick

I spoke to few ADs about Daytona and real chance of getting one without spending 5 or 6 figure for jewelry a year — it is much closer to 0% than it is to 1%.

The matter here should not be embarrassment to ask but more of what type of diplomatic answer they will give you to a same question they get asked 10+ times daily?

Why not? Are you playing to win or not loose? The AD will either say "yes" or "we'll consider to put you on the list". Box and papers bro!

No I didn’t it’s not a watch I’ve registered any actual interest in I just asked how he decides who to give them too. It was a polite way of telling me it’s not gonna happen.

The first time I met with my AD was March 2019 to purchase a Tag Heuer Monaco. Then in May I bought a DJ41 blue dial, smooth bezel on jubilee. Then in July I bought the BLNR on jubilee. I asked to be put on the Daytona list October 26 and got it 58 days later on December 24, 2019.

I Agree with everyone saying you need to spend 1 mil every year to be placed in a list with a 1% chance of ever getting one……

I’m kidding. It’s possible, depends on where you are located and if the ad actually likes you. I spent around $50k over the course of 3 years before I got one. Part of the 50k was also a green sub. Just go talk to them, find something in common.

Frankly, if someone is going to make you feel embarrassed for asking to spend thousands of dollars in their establishment, you don't want to do business with them anyways. I don't think most AD's are like that, so why not give it a shot and see what comes back?

So one can spend 100k on jewelry plus 13k for the watch and still wait to get it OR
Just pay 39k for the watch and get it in the morning....
Tell me who the "sucker" is again?

Has anyone blatantly gone into their AD and specifically asked what to do to get the watch they want?

I’m just spitballing here so early apologies if this has already been covered somewhere on the forum.

Conversation going something like this-

Buyer - *walks in

SA- welcomes _____ in, recognizes they’re a good customer and starts polite conversation

Buyer - acknowledges SA with a “Good afternoon ______, I am well. How about yourself?

SA- (after all pleasantries) “what brings you in today ________?”

Buyer- I’ve grown really fond of (insert reference # here) and I’m interested in what we need to do to make it happen?

SA - (flabbergasted someone comes in knowing and willing to play their game) lays out something more concrete than buy 20k worth of stuff you don’t want and I can maybe put you on a list that you may never get a call from.

This may happen already, however being straight forward and to the point has never steered me wrong in the past.

I actually got my name added for one "for fun".

Whilst waiting for another particular watch, bought a DJ36 for my father and asked if I can add myself on a list for another piece. When the AD asked "which one?" i said "take a guess, i want to test the possibilities".

needless to say, she smiled and said "i'll add you on, but you will need to work your way up again once you get the actual piece you are waiting for".

I doubt it will ever arrive for me, but you never know without trying!

If you're scared just ask for a PM Daytona. That way they know you have $$$$ .

Based on the statement I've bolded, I would suggest you walk into the AD and confidently tell the SA you want to be put on the waiting list. Once you leave and realize that no matter what is being said in the store has zero consequence to your well-being, you will be better for it. This will be a great lesson on understanding that it does not matter what others think of you.

Also, I don’t know if this has been touched on.

I just realized OP is a woman. Her chances could be much better than ours at getting what she wants.

OP, do not let what you think the SA will do intimidate you. For all you know he is intimidated every time you walk in.
