My blue-dialled OP39 has risen in value by >80% over the past five years.

The white is said to be even more desirable than the blue.

However, only in 2018 was the white and black dial Rolex OP produced - that was quickly discontinued in 2020. The black dial was revamped, but the white dial was completely discontinued. The white dial here is NOT the same as the ones you find on an older model airking, newer model datejust etc. This eggshell (silvery powdery white) dial is very unique and only done for the Op white. Now if you were to count up the numbers, you can easily see that Rolex doesn’t produce many of this each year. I would estimate that ~ 2000 pieces in white dial 36mm produced in the entire 2 years and that’s probably high. Hope that helps get the ball rolling.
You get the original question. Thank you.

116000 White OP rarity

Short answer is nobody knows. They make many more Daytonas each year than Milgauss but we don’t know the ratio. It could be 100 to 1 it could be 1000 to 1.

As for how many white OP 39 they made? Maybe somewhere in the middle. Average rarity average desirability.

The only thing that matters is how many are for sale and the price.

Nothing is truly rare in Rolex because they can all be purchased at any time anywhere in the world. So it’s like saying is a can of soup more rare than a carton of milk at the grocery store. Like uh I guess there’s probably 5 cans of soup for every carton of milk so milk is more rare?

It’s just a weird question to ask that nobody really knows and doesn’t really matter.

If you want piece unique don’t look to Rolex unless you’re trying to find piece unique vintage.

Actually was discussing this further with some experts and some say the number is below 1000 pieces if you are looking at the 36mm variety. Some argue it maybe below 500 pieces considering the whole number available on sale is less than 10 pieces currently.

Hope those who have better numbers can shed some light, but as far as I can tell, this watch is going to be really really hard to find. Cheers.

Here a post from another form I came across. It’s an older post, but shows this question has validity:

There's 7 for sale worldwide right now on C24 and 51 Zblue Milgauss so the white OP is pretty rare but not impossible to find. Because of limited production years there aren't a ton of them out there. But they also aren't hugely sought after.

There are many Rolex references that they only made for 1-2 years in limited quantities, lots of DJ dial variants for example.

You're unlikely to see another in the wild I bet. As time goes on they only get more rare too as examples are lost and destroyed.

If I were a betting man... I'd say they're going to bring back white OP's soon and maybe olive or rhodium again.

Please let me know another Rolex reference, besides the sub that Rolex made for 1-2 years. I’d love to know to add them to my research list. The more specific the better. Thanks.

If you’re just interested in rare dials I’m sure you could google it. The black OP39 was probably made in similar quantities. They’ve made lots of single year datejust dial variants and daydates. The classic series has a lot more experimentation and single year ultra rare variants than their professional line which they tend to keep more consistent with fewer reference variants.
