I did the same with a black rolesor sub last month. It's the right thing to do, well done!

Cheers OP for the daily dose of virtue signalling from a stranger on the internet.

For what it is worth, you did the right thing. Although I'm not sure that every good deed needs to be shared online though...

I can’t promise that the good karma (and a Kermit) will come back around to the OP (although I sincerely hope it will), but I can promise that I will thoroughly enjoy the BLNR that OP passed on! This is a grail for me and going to be a workhorse in my collection for years to come. Thanks OP!

Sure I’m happy to share it! Totally get any skepticism of my story but simply didn’t feel comfortable posting proof of purchase in a public forum. I did however DM it to the OP as it was important for me to let him know the impact his good deed had and that I plan on wearing the watch. It sounds like OP passed on it a few days before I picked it up. It doesn’t sound like our AD gets multiple units of the same in demand model so I’m pretty confident this is the same watch.

Here’s the story I originally posted in WUS:

“After a little more than two years of waiting, I finally got the call from my AD. A 126710BLNR had come in and he wanted to know if I wanted it. Did I ever!?

I’ll be honest, I was starting to think that it wouldn’t happen. I thought about the gray market but really couldn’t pull the trigger and I even started to look at other, more attainable non Rolex watches. But ultimately I decided to be patient.

When I picked it up, my AD mentioned that having built a relationship with them really helped. He wasn’t talking about a purchase history, as my total purchasing history amounted to a Milgauss I bought with the AD in 2014. I know this didn’t play into the equation much gauging by his reaction to me telling him about it when I first went in looking for a Batgirl (I don’t shy from the nickname, I like it). What he meant was me dropping by the store every few months to shoot the **** about interesting watches (Rolex and others), as well as remind him of my interest in a friendly way. He told me they want to take care of local customers but I’m sure there are plenty of those and it helps to come in periodically and stay top of mind.

Hope this is encouraging to those of you waiting out there. Stay positive, it may happen sooner than you think and it’s worth the wait!”

I'm sure it is someone's want, just not mine. I have a Grand Seiko SBGJ237 Hi-beat GMT that can tell time in three time zones and has a blue and white bezel and blue sunburst dial face...love that watch, not giving it up for a Batman.

Sure I could have flipped the Batman for several thousand, but I really didn't want the watch and I didn't want to take from someone who might really want and appreciate it. Don't get me wrong, I am a committed capitalist and I love making money, but this situation just didn't sit right with me. I didn't want the watch and I knew if I bought it I would just flip it.

I told David I'm still holding out for the 126610LV (Starbucks, Kermit, Cermit...what ever you want to call it). He said he should be able to get it for me in the next 2 or 3 months... Here's hoping that the good Karma of not taking advantage and scooping up a watch I really didn't want works out and sometime in the next few months I'll be able to post that awesome incoming 126610LV...
Love that GS, and very upstanding of you to resist an opportunity to take and flip a watch you decided you didn't want.

This is a good move and will support building a relationship with this AD. You will get what you want eventually. Please post when you do

Cheers!

I see there are 2 schools of thought...

a) buy whatever you can get your hands on at retail. If you don't want it, flip it --> raises your profile with the AD but what if they 'catch' you flipping?

b) wait until you're offered what you really want, at the risk of never getting it

I was in the same situation a few months back. Was offered a sub but I'm waiting for a Pepsi / Daytona / Nautilus. Having interacted with the AD a regularly I figured honesty will go further than 'building my spend level'. They are not short on people wanting these watches so that sub went probably to the next caller. I was told a Pepsi will arrive for me soon. I don't think that would have happened if I had taken the sub...

At the end of the day I think it really depends on your AD. But when I'm picking up my Pepsi I will actually ask him what the best move would have been :)

Looking back at it, I do think a happy medium could be to buy the sub, or in the OP case the BLNR, and sell it to a friend who really wants it, at no profit.

I get the impression from my AD that spending on professional sport models does not raise my profile at all (it seems to have the opposite effect). Spending on Cellini, 2-tone DJ, Hublot, Girard Perregaux, Breguet and Ulysse Nardin do.

This happened to me on a Patek Nautilus. I was on the list for a blue dial. A couple weeks later the AD offered me a white dial. I passed and said give it to someone who really wants it. That was about a $65k mistake. Oh well, and btw the watch hit discontinued and I never did get the one I wanted.

He didn’t want it, he did the right thing.
Buy what you love, rather than becoming part of the flipping/FOMO problem.

Welcome to the club, and congrats on the move. Like other longer-term members, I've also turned down Rolex's (last being a TT Daytona) and I think it is important to do so to keep you grounded.

Three months later and patience and good Karma pays off!!

Got the call today and immediately zipped over to Ben Bridge Seattle and scooped up my Cermit!!

David put me on the waitlist last April and finally it is here. Thanks David, absolutely loving the watch.

Congrats. You got what you really wanted!

I’m all for flipping and making money but if taking the blnr wouldve set you back from getting this then i would’ve waited also.

From talking to my AD I get the sense that they are skeptical to sell a professional series watch to a customer they don’t know for fear of it being flipped. He sounded as worn out as this forum on what’s happening in the market. Moral of the story is that building a relationship matters (almost) as much as your purchase history.

PS: congrats on your LV!
