When I picked up an Explorer several weeks ago, I was wearing a Cellini. The AD SA said that Cellini demand was high and had a decent waitlist.

Not sure why the waitlist to pay full retail. You can find any Cellini way below list on Chrono24 and eBay.

Good riddance. Probably the 2nd worst Rolex watch after the Air King.

Many southern restaurants have a variety of alligator dishes on their menus. Fried alligator bites with a creamy mustard sauce is one of my favorites.

CA had a crazy law in place about gator/crocodile leather but I’m pretty sure a federal judge over turned it.

Also, I’m pretty sure the new Omega Speedmaster isn’t available on an alligator strap because of the CA law, but again, I think that law was over turned by a federal judge.

Gators aren’t an endangered species but a Rolex Daytona or a Rolex GMT certainly are.

Even if they were endangered, Rolex would only need like one of them to make all the straps for the Cellini's they sell

I’m not sure why there’s no love for the line on TRF. I understand not having the need for a dress watch, and I don’t need one often. OTOH, it’s the only guilloché dial offered by Rolex, and the PM has a nice heft. I was at a pre-owned dealer recently, asking about a dress watch, and I asked him about ALS and The Big Three. He said, ‘Rolex is cheaper, more durable- that’s the one to consider.’ This, from someone who had no dress watches in the case!

Always liked them, but I don't need a dress watch. Too bad.

Although I do not own one, I am fan of this reference. I saw a few in an AD when visiting Vancouver a few months ago and I was tempted. I have little need for a dress watch at this point in my life, so I passed.

The dress watch demographic is skewed a lot older - probably not big forum users. Also many prefer a more finely finished timepiece when going for a dress watch.

I think the Rolex Cellini is a beautiful watch.

I do not think you HAVE to wear it with a suit, with Black Tie … to weddings, funerals, formal
parties, etc. … but I do wear it on those occasions.

I find the need to own a dress watch … and love the Rolex Cellini.

And, when you compare the way they look, the durability, and the price, versus other “big” name watch makers, I think the Cellini comes out near the top.

If you want to “fun it up” / have something that fits dressy and casual, look to the Cellini Moonphase … the best of both worlds …

Love the Cellini - somewhere on rolex forums I once said I like the Cellini better than the Daytona. Don’t own either at this point, but I still stand by this opinion. Moreover, for current gray Daytona prices you can get way better pieces.

I loved it when I had it, but could never really tell what phase the moon was in. So that got old after a bit.

Rolex swing and a miss with the whole Cellini marketing concept.

If Rolex had dropped the Cellini BS and just made a cool dress watch ala the PP Calatrava it would have worked much better IMO.

That’s what I was wondering — cool optic but how to tell phase? That little arrow ?

If I had a nickel for every time that this was posted on TRF, I'd be able to buy a Daytona at market price by now lol

FYI I just saw a Cellini in my AD's case...

Agree. Moon phase is pretty useless as you can’t really tell. To me it’s there to add color to the dial. And a complication.

That's too bad. They are really cool watches....if not a bit too pricey. I'd love to add one to my collection but I'd probably purchase it used.

Why kill yourself making a highly refined gold watch that will be a slow seller at $40k when you can slap together a basic SS chrono and get the same price?

How many of you will miss the Cellini?

I was advised quite some time ago that it was due to certain laws in the US forbidding the use of crocodile leather on straps.
