Totally agree…

I’m not the police or a detective but come on…

Some person shows up because the door was open while housekeeping is cleaning the room. They have time to go through a closed suitcase while housekeeping is somewhere close by. Then they steal a Rolex watch and box while also leaving clothes all about messed up. Housekeeping does not notice anything wrong and then close the room door. And the guest comes back and see a mess and housekeeping never saw anything. That’s the BS story they gave you? Wow…
Really???

Every hotel (at least every one I’ve been to) has a safe in the room. That’s there for a reason.

I have bought a few Rolex on travel, and each time, if I leave the room, so does the watch ... always in my backpack. On the plane, does not go in overhead, only by my feet.

Hope you get it back.

I can assure you hotel safes aren't safe. Don't trust hotel security, either.

Crazy. I’m sorry to hear this happened to you.
This makes me want to bring a camera and set it up in my room next time I travel with watches. We do it at home, why not hotels?

Sorry to hear buddy. I thought no housekeepers are supposed to be in room due to covid so what the heck was she doing in there? And no, it didn’t happen when she was in the bathroom cleaning. She was the culprit.

Sorry to hear, hope it turns up. I’d have the police check the hallway cameras and see if it’s visible who went in and out of your room. Even if it was a Seiko, the frustration of a thief angers me.

If they have hallway cameras, if she took the watch and box, should be able to see her as she leaves the room, with or without the watch and box.....

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Maids are (supposed to be) trained to use their cleaning carts to block the outside entrance of rooms they’re cleaning. They’re supposed to move them into position and there is a wheel lock making it impossible to move the cart. We’ve all seen this in practice at hotels. How could someone bypass the cart if that was the case?

Secondly, rooms are ONLY cleaned AFTER check-out has occurred on the system. Maids are dispatched based upon this data and not before. Had you already checked out but had requested the hotel leave your keycard active?

Sorry to hear about your Datejust! Luckily, you are insured and no one was injured. I also believe the 24 yo maid took your watch. Have you seen the same maid anytime during your stay?

I always put by watch(s) in the hotel safe when not in use.

I checked into a hotel last year and had the feeling the person at the front desk was paying too much attention to my watch...Didn't think much about it, checked in and then went out..

Forgot something and as I headed back, the front desk person was literally coming out of my room!!

I was so stunned and they were moving so fast, I didn't even react.

I did speak to management about it but no idea what that even was.

Sorry to hear about your loss...Glad it's insured!

If I happen to have something of value in my hotel room using the hotel safe is not the only thing.
I still put up the Do Not Disturb sign to eliminate the obvious excuse of housekeeping entering the room.

Sorry. Total BS. Total violation.

Someone should setup a sting with a small Wi-Fi camera and nail the thief.

Man so sorry to hear this. I usually keep at least one Rolex with me on the hotel safe. Next month I’m traveling for work and will be in a mid level hotel for an entire month, rural area. I was going to take a watch but I cannot possibly wear it everywhere. I plan to workout everyday and possibly play tennis multiple times a week. Your story makes me want to travel without a watch.

This is crazy, I’m sorry this happened however I give you a lot of credit for being calm and dealing w this very maturely. Based on your posts I get the sense you never really lost your composure… congrats. Given that the cameras record outside shouldn’t it have shown the maid enter and a second person enter as well given her story. Good luck w getting reimbursed.

Sounds like someone knew what they were looking for. Here's an idea: Have hotel security go back through camera footage of the lobby/hallway to see who was around and watching when you came in the other day with the bag from the jeweler. How else would someone suspect that 1) you had a nice watch and 2) chances were high that there was a second nice watch in the room?

Unless you did something else to make yourself seem conspicuous, it's too much of a coincidence, particularly if you're the only one on the floor who was robbed at the time.

Drove 700km to pick up my Black SkyD.
Stayed in a fancy hotel ,took the family with ,made a long weekend of it .
Kept the box and watch in the safe ,the whole time .
Picked up Otitis externa and food poisoning over the weekend,so I was a dead security guard for the Rolex in the room.

Trip to remember .

Hotel safe .

It’s moments like this that make you question the hobby and if karma is trying to yeah you a lesson for having an ego. I’ve had a very similar situation happen to me because I was acquiring a watch.
