I love the ND Submariner. It’s a nice clean refreshing look..

Sold my Sub Date to get the Submariner. It's my daily now.

No date sub - what do you think?
I own quite a few Rolexes, including some of their divers, and I’m surprised to say that once I got the 41 mm N/D, it has become my most worn watch over the last two years. I find that not having to set the date on a watch is somewhat liberating.
Also I find that I enjoy the watches aesthetics and engineering more without the date. Isn’t that why we buy watches like these anyway? |

Subs are generally not used for diving anymore. Do some use them? Sure - but it is not common. Rolex is no longer utilitarian. They are capable, but they are walking the fine line of jewellery vs. tool these days. NOTHING wrong with that. Date is one of the few complications that is actually useful.
Also, the post 5 dig era is not at all "classic". The modern watches of today are just that, a modern take on classic aesthetics. To say the date is less classic or that it doesn't make sense on a ceramic sub is contradictory as the watches themselves are not classic IMO. The date complication is more fitting on modern iterations and the no date is the way to go on classic and vintage references. If you want symmetry, of course none of the above matters. I like mine. I will add I think the Submariner (ND) is a bit more low profile than the Sub Date, which is something I really like.

I love these two but seriously thinking of trading the 114060 for a 16610. Or a 16613?? I think the 5 digit subs will wear better as I age and ride off into the sunset.

I definitely prefer the Submariner (that’s no date for those of you that don’t know).
But there is no right or wrong answer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have a love/hate relationship with the Sub or any no-date watch. I used to have quite a bit of them, now I'm down to just the Sub as my only no-date watch.
I like the clean simple look and lack of cyclops. OTOH, I'm a guy that really likes having a date function on my watches as I do check it constantly. For me the calculus is simple. The Sub could not be an only daily type watch for me due to lack of date. But as part of even a small collection (as it is for me) the lack of date can be a plus. I don't have my watches on winders, so some stop over the course of not wearing them. In that situation I love having a watch that I can set really quickly without worrying about day/night and setting the date. That's a huge underrated plus of having a no-date watch in a collection imo. |
