NICE shot! I've done similar water activities with my 116713, its 100M which is more than enough and the triplock really puts any other doubts at ease.

Right on...they are made to be worn. A well worn watch is a watch worn well.

With decades of horse riding wearing my 16030, falling off the horse, falling with the horse, I can tell you they are tough and rugged!

I typically stop babying things as time passes and such was the case with Sub as well. After a few months I wasn't as paranoid about banging up the watch.

It's wild because simple things like putting your hand in a jacket pocket with zippers, putting a backpack on / off, typing on a computer, etc will cause minor scratches and swirls.

Probably impossible to wear a watch and not get some scratches and swirls no matter how careful you are. Yes, some people do put those protective films on their watches but even then it will probably get some scratches on it.

Even though I agree with you in the fact that it is almost impossible to wear a watch without scratching it, I disagree with you on that fact that you are breaking it down to "right" and "wrong".

Right and wrong is different for everyone. Don't worry about how anyone else is wearing their watch. Everyone has a right to wear their watches however they please.
I totally agree. Some enjoy having a Rolex, wear it everywhere and whatever normal wear happens is part of owning and enjoying the watch. Others will wear the watch occasionally and baby it when it is on their wrist, but they still enjoy owning their watch. Everyone has their own comfort level with their Rolex. It doesn't necessarily mean that one person enjoys their watch more than another. .

The bracelet use can be seen under the day/ date text. The clasp had a nice patina as well.

The WG surround that surrounds the pearl was damaged pretty good. RSC insisted on a service I guess of how damaged it was thinking I hit it hard on something. You can see the damage in the picture at the bottom of the surround.

It was due for service anyways at 10 years with lots of wear so insurance covered a new WG surround of the pearl and a service. I had them polish only the bracelet and not polish the case which was in great shape. Came back in mint condition and exactly 4 weeks to the day I dropped it off.
It’s been a great well traveled Rolex, wouldn’t think of selling even if the price gets to $40,000+

Of course optional services they offered and said I needed were a new dial which was declined along with a few other options which I forget exactly what they were, no thanks.
It’s been about 2 years since that service and at the bank lock box now as I have been on the GMT drug. Tudor GMT, Rolex GMT 116710LN, Rolex GMT 16710 bought new at Ad in 2001 and a Grand Seiko GMT SBGJ001 which is stunning with its white dial. The Seiko hand finishing, dial and bracelet are incredible. Hi Beat keeps excellent time.
I wonder what would have caused damage to the dial?

Scratches are liberating. I’m more calm wearing my 2013 114060, than my 2021 116500.

My left arm pretty instinctively goes behind my back walking through the glass door to our glass walled conference rooms. A Speedmaster took a hit to the case and bezel one time.

The only other one that likely is just me is o ly reaching into my computer bag with the right hand. It's main opening has a big metal zipper.

Some seem to boast at their scratched-up watches; I don't see it that way. I believe there is much more to boast about wearing a watch carefully in all pursuits and keeping it as close to pristine as possible; to me that is what deserves recognition.

If you don't have scratches...you're not wearing it right. Am I correct?

Interesting thread. If I’m honest with myself I start out over-worrying about my watches (even my less valuable beaters) but after a bit of time and a few scratches then I get over it.

My sub is 5 years old and is generally in great condition because I take care with it but I don’t baby it. It’s been my go to 90% in that time. Normal wear and tear surface scratches are just unavoidable. After a while they become part of the character of the watch but I definitely try to limit them where possible. I’d take it off if doing DIY work or stuff where I know it could get dinged up.

Just got a new Explorer I though and I’m definitely still in that honeymoon phase where I’m inspecting more than I should be ;)

Every dent, ding and scratch tells a story. Too many people are caught up in “resale value”. Enjoy your watch. Stop worrying - Period.

It’s just how they get.. I can say any of them tell a “story” further then I walked into a door or smashed it off a table though.

Pulled my 6424 Oyster out of the safe yesterday. I was thinking to myself, why don't I wear my birth year watch more often??? I'm going to be 63 next month, what am I worried about?? So I wore it while driving the kids, out to lunch, and the rest of the day. It even survived a trip to the donut shot this morning!!

Yes! I also think the wear that comes from natural unrestricted can be beautiful. Some areas becomes accentuated – same thing you can see on guitars that have been played for decades.

I don't recall exactly, but when I got my Daytona 5+ years ago, I imagine I was especially careful with it the first few days. But I noticed after a couple of days that the clasp had some hairlines in it, and realized it just wasn't going to look new (mine was a year old when I got it) for long, no matter what I did. Other than parking it in a safe. So I became careful, but not paranoid with it. I do recall giving it a light scratch when on a train in Switzerland and putting my backpack back on. It didn't make me happy, but it happened. So I don't think of that "scar" with fondness, but it's the only blemish that I recall when it happened.

My other watch is a mid-80s DJ with the acrylic crystal. It was thicker and I used to bang that up inadvertently. The Daytona is much easier to avoid that contact, plus perhaps I am older and more careful now.

I would need a LOT more money to have such an expensive watch and not wear and enjoy it!

Pics from this morning after wearing every day for 5 years:
