The funny thing is, everyone likes to "blame" different people but no one actually blames the actual culprit... The brand...

What is happening now is EXACTLY what the brand wants. They could "fix" this immediately if they wanted via a million different ways but most of those ways would remove the hype and put Rolex right back where it was years ago with display cases full.

I am not saying they should as it would be a terrible idea on their part business wise but please take Rolex off the pedestal that so many have put them on.

You're "investing" in what makes you happy. If price isn't an issue, and what you truly want is a Rolex, go for it. I paid over MSRP for mine, but a Sub has been my grail watch for over nearly 25 years. To me I was investing in myself, not speculating the future value of the watch. Buy what makes you happy, not what you think it could be worth later.

walk in to an AD with 200k cash, spend it on jewelry and other watches and maybe they will have a Rolex you might get to look at...maybe...then wait...1 year maybe 2...or 3...your investment might start in 5 years....maybe 7....

Really?? That’s basically what I said? Real estate, a necessity of life, you’re comparing to a watch? Real estate investors help to make it possible for those who can’t obtain a mortgage to live in a home. Some real estate investors are good for mankind. What good has come from watch investors? Your comparison is insane.

honestly the flaming wasn't as bad as i thought it'd be
Most definitely i used a wrong word, Investment.
When i buy expensive things, i buy something that i like and something that doesn't lose in value. Something more like an asset than an expense.
It's just the way the way i spend. I'd say it's smart spending.

I'm not trying to get rich from buying a used rolex with no box and no paper.

I've always wanted a fluted bezel Datejust. If it loses value in the future though, then i can find a different model that i like. It seems like Datejust doesn't do too well when it comes to an "investment".
Jomashop is where i'm looking at now. Maybe chrono24 if i can't find a watch on Jomashop

Can you share some of the other expensive investments you’ve made so that we can all spend smart? Thank you.

It’s a very reasonable ask. Just now, though, a lot of collectors are chapped about the realities of the current state of play.

To answer your question, it would be a 5-digit Polar Explorer II for my money.

OK, no flame here.

I don't blame you. When I buy something expensive I at least like to know how bad I might get hit with depreciation. I like driving a BMW but depreciation on new is so crazy I would never buy one new.

While it wasn't the only reason, one of the reasons I settled on Rolex when I wanted a nicer watch was that if I decided it wasn't for me I could probably at least break even if I wanted to sell it.

All that being said you are unlikely to lose much money on any Rolex if you shop smart. Box and papers always make it easier to move as a private seller. They seem to be worth at least 10% of the selling price. Just is what it is.

I'd stay away from Jomashop. Look up our own trusted sellers here. C24 can be hit or miss.

You can call them investments. The right watches have increased value over a period of time, which make them investments. Does it mean you should invest in watches over other options? Probably not. At the end of the day I’m naturally more comfortable buying a watch that I know will hold it’s value and I can enjoy its craftsmanship.

And thats exactly why today Rolex watches are hard to get at retail now if everyone stopped playing these so called AD games. And thinking Rolex watches to be nothing more than investment this or that or just ££$$€€ objects. Then perhaps we could get back to normal when they bought Rolex watches to own and wear for many decades hopefully in good health which is far more important.

I made an online purchase Pre-owned Rolex Datejust II Automatic Black Dial 41mm 116334BKSO
No box and paper though. With tax it was about 12000$. It says the condition is excellent so we'll see. I couldn't find a Datejust 41mm for this price with Paper or box.
It seems like a lot of you recommend explorer 2 but i realized it's not really my flavor. Hopefully Datejust 41mm hold value as well as Explorer 2.

Those are bad investments. Get a daytona at market price. Never depreciates.

You're welcome.
