Anyone who spends any time here is the type of person who is prone to having more than one Rolex. I mean.....if you were one and done why would you even be here discussing these things? I have a lot of watches and I feel they are fun to have and good investments (the watches I own have been) so why not enjoy? If I get offered a piece I like tomorrow I'll say yes even though I don't need it. Wanting and needing are different things and for some of us this is a minor or major hobby (minor for me).

I’m fortunate to be able to enjoy several watches. I really enjoyed getting to sit down with Patek in Paris. It was a lovely experience and they are an amazing Brand. Could not buy anything, but the visit was special for me.

just getting one at retail would be nice LOL....

Im always a 3 watch collection kind of guy though so an Explorer, Sub and DJ would do nicely...or substitute the Sub for a BLRO

I could go down to 2 and have a Yachtmaster and DJ i suppose.

I currently own 14 Rolex watches. 13 SS and one PM. I am currently not looking as I have a collection I am happy with. In the future I might consolidate back into fewer pieces and transition back into PM. I also have more than my share of Tudors and Seiko's. I have just gone back to Panerai and am trying to buy some of the older models that were special to me from the brands past, 317/233/389/422 and am currently on the hunt for a Radiomir to finish that collection out.

There's a tipping point...right before your family starts getting annoyed that you're blowing money on Rolexes that you could be using for other purposes to benefit the family, such as vacations, etc. That's where I figure I need to stop...

It all depends on who you ask.

Most of the people I know (outside of TRF, of course) do not own a single Rolex, and seem to be leading pretty happy lives in spite of that fact.

I think three is about right.
I do derive some pleasure by adding another watch to my small collection. But I can't really understand deriving significantly more pleasure by adding a seventh or fifteenth or twentieth watch to the collection.

I only need one, and I love discussing watches. Enthusiasts aren’t necessarily collectors.

I have 2. One is earmarked for my daughter at a given age; maybe her golden birthday. I get to keep the other and write it into my estate.

I have quite a few Rolex and other brands, and have been thinking of consolidating. But, just can't figure out which ones to keep and which ones to let go. Hence, all stay put until that decision is made.

I do think that two or three at the max will be good enough to cover all occasions.

I guess 3 could be considered a “correct” answer … can we look this up, surely someone has written about this in a book of etiquette !!! Lol

1. Casual … work, play, lunches, shopping, etc. (for me, my Black Submariner)

2. Semi-Casual … fun, dinners, parties, cruises (for me, my “Bluesy”)

3. Formal (Dress) … Black Tie, weddings, funerals (for me, my Cellini)

That said, I have more than 3, but feel I should / would like to pare it down to 8.

I think with 8 I get the variety I am looking for.

My problem … when I get a new watch, I wear it all the time, and neglect my other watches … I have watches that I have not worn in 5 years, nice watches, watches that were hard to get, and I’m not wearing them … sheesh.

I find if you focus on fitting all occasions, by having a watch for each, then you can go as small as 3 … or even 2 (fun / work and dress) … or even 1, if it’s suitable for every occasion (TT DateJust).

BUT … the fun (to me) is in the collecting.

I currently have 5 Rolexes (amongst a much bigger collection of non-Rolexes). I've had more, and I've had less (obviously!), but between 3 and 5 is ideal for me.

I'm currently looking for 2 discontinued NOS pieces, and if/when I pick them up I will probably move my 14060M and 116334 on to accommodate them.

Once your eyes and mind start wandering toward other brands, that might be a sign.

I’m after one, maybe three other Rolex pieces. After that, I think other brands are going to be in favor.

16 here and it’s too many. I’ve realised that collecting isn’t an exact science. Something you like today you may not like tomorrow and so collections evolve.
I like all the watches I have but for simplicity I’m thinking of downsizing and selling a few off and consolidating the ones I sell into a couple of PM pieces.
