Speaking for myself I am not ruled by some perceived size watch anyone male or female has to wear. I wear whatever I want to wear thats the only important bit, my choice and my choice only.

that's a 36, you can tell by the end links. the 40 has 2 end links while the 36 (pre current 128xxx 6 digit) only ever had 1

The 36mm DD is a great watch. Let’s not forget that it was the only size DD Rolex made for many years, and for the most part, those of us who wear it don’t complain about the size. I don’t think Rolex is going to stop making the 36mm DD any time soon. One only has to look at the 41mm DD II which wasn’t manufactured for very long, before it was discontinued. I too like large watches, and wear an Omega Flightmaster, and if you are familiar with the watch, you know it’s rather large. I have a medium small wrist and both look fine on me, in my opinion. Just wear what you like and don’t worry about what others think. Most of us, if you notice, who really like wearing watches are very flexible about size. You will always have those who are negative about the size of a watch, are just negative.

Good spotting guys. I didn’t notice that single end link. I wonder what reference it is…my first thought was 118238 (polished lugs) but it’s a black dial with sticks or baguettes and I don’t think Rolex ever made a 118238 in that dial configuration….unless it’s the RG black/sticks 118235….but it looks more YG to me. Could also be a redial I suppose…or maybe an earlier release and I’m imagining the polished lugs.

The Explorer 36 is a very normal sized watch… which is why I would be cautious moving someone who makes it look that small relatively. Just a thought.

You can definitely make it work--it's personal preference in the end--but don't claim that it "fits" you in any objective way. I absolutely agree...

It is like saying that a size S in clothing is not for men.

If you are fine with wearing a watch that looks too big on you just because 36mm isn't for men so be it.

And I don't even think the 36mm is equivalent to a size S in clothing.

I am 5’11 with a wrist that is around 6.8 inches flat, can wear a sub without it looking big on me, I am M or L in most clothes and my daily is a 124270.

I do have a 16660 as well and had a 16610 which I think are too heavy and too big to be comfortable daily.

Most amounts of the compliments received are on my previous 114270 and now on the 124270.

If you have a 7.5” wrist or larger and are a bigger made person then you may need to go for a larger watch….obviously. The thing I find interesting is that most people hating on smaller watches don’t even have big wrists. It’s the 6 to 6.5er screaming about a 36mm being a ladies watch lol.

But in the end….it’s your watch, so wear what you like.

I tell you what I have realized. This is pure class. Understated excellence. I feel like a boss because I have the grand daddy Rolex but in a subdued format. The 40mm has more presence for sure. But thats just it. The 36mm is more subtle and refined. Under the radar. Manly enough to make feel like a king but without having to show it off. After 1 day I immediately received several compliments from watch geeks while it went unnoticed to the masses. Made me feel like the Godfather. All the power but no need to flaunt it. Content with knowing my place amongst men with no need for ego to overshadow it. I wish I knew how to post pics
