I have a VERY warm spot in my heart for A Collected Man.

Through their integrity I ended up with this watch for free.

I love Jack’s articles, and will enjoy hearing what he has to say wherever he is. He’s a true watch enthusiast.

Watch journalism reminds me of automotive journalism. I don’t pretend the “good ole days” were pure, but I sure did enjoy reading Car & Driver magazine in the 1980s, when Brock Yates (Cannonball Run pioneer), Patrick Bedard and Csaba Csere were amongst those writing content. The authors were adults who unabashedly loved cars, and the articles were written for an audience who also got joy from driving. Why do you need a Corvette when a Camry can take you from A to Z, with a back seat and room for groceries and luggage too, for less money? Sound familiar?

Take a look at the new editors announced at Hodinkee today. Some were already contributing…save for one former vintage guy, clearly there will be more focus on social media / hype / “lifestyle” and lighter fare given the hires.

This.

The Dink is now just a retailer and the "journalism" is being created just to sell the watches in the shop. I used to look at it daily. Now, once a year to see the new trade show releases.

The short version is, I bought it used, one of their principals/owners from their site had owned it. It immediately had some problems, one hand would stick on the decorative screw on the dial.

The crystal also has been scraped on the entire outside edge from a Cap Cod cloth because someone had tried to touch up the "bezel" of the case.

I sent it back and it was gone for 6 months and when Collected Man finally got it back from their repair place they weren't happy with the repair (dust under the crystal, etc) so they fixed that and sent me the watch, and a check for the amount I paid for it.

That's the short version.

They haven't been great at integrating "profiles" in recent times e.g the english chap and Federico - Hope the best for Jack

right, and the reason is Tim doesn't actually sell watches or get paid to sell watches.

i guess technically i have bought from him, as i bought his entire JLC collection, but my point is that his reviews are buyers guides of the watches, which are immensely helpful and informative.. no one directs him on what to say or how to say it. (anyone who knows tim would agree, that is a nearly impossible feat.)
