The correctest answer is . . .

All the darn writing on the dial!

I know it's a Rolex; so do other people with Rolex watches.

I'd be fine with the brand name and all the rest written at the same point size as the tiny SWISS word at the bottom.

Without doubt it's the dive suit extension. Completely worthless to me.

The manual winding function! I must shake and quake enough to keep it rollin' all the time.

Icon10 An odd mood I'm in, and silly I've been...Pre-apologies : )

Hm, "What is the most useless feature..." I find no-thing useless with the ExpyII, save for the non-transferable warranty!

Let's see, I didn't buy a Milgauss because I don't do a lot around magnetic fields.

I didn't purchase a Sea Dweller because I ain't going deeper than 16 feet.

I didn't buy a Daytona (sans the price factor) because I really don't need lap times and other timer functions.

I bought an Explorer because it has the GMT function (#1 son goes to Germany August 1st) and the date.
Oh, and it tells time!

We rode the wild rides at Idlewild yesterday and we both survived,
but it rained a tad so I took it off and put it in my pocket to keep it safe
and I'm concerned that my bracelet stretched with the G-forces encountered.
Then, last night, I got the pillow in the winder wet with sweat!

I foresee buying a TOG because it DOESN'T have any of the features I DON'T want, also.

Since when is the Rolex warranty non-transferable? I just bought a Sub used that is only about 8 month old and the AD that checked out the watch before I bought it, told me the warranty is transferable as long as I have the filled out warranty paperwork.

I am the last person to ask (...the least knowledgeable), but there's been a bit of a debate over it.

Its nice to know the debate yet continues (...rages on).

Agree that the HEV is useful for saturation divers and also agree very few HEV equipped watches experience the need to release helium.

OK!!!!! I've got it!!!! The Winning Answer!!!!!

How about that Tachymeter around the bezel of my Daytona? If I need to know how fast the car I'm driving is going I usually look at the speedometer.

A number of years ago, perhaps 15 to 20, Rolex assembled a charming booklet comprised of regular wearers whose watches had been to hell and back and survived various ordeals. Included were accounts of the following: Rolex was inadvertently placed in clothes dryer . . . and survived; Rolex fell off of the wrist of a skydiver many thousand feet up . . . and survived; Rolex was run over by a truck . . . and survived; and finally, Rolex fell off as wearer was placing food in the oven, got baked . . . and survived. In some cases, the bezel, crystal, etc., needed replacing but never the mechanism which always escaped injury. Rolex concluded at the end of the booklet, that their watches were always safest on the wearer's wrist.

Common sense dictates that Rolex would not recruit golfers (or any other sports figures) as ambassadors if these were sports by which the watch would be damaged by its participants. Part of what you are paying for is an enduring timepiece which is relatively impermeable to much at what life throws at it.

2. The rotating bezel - looks good, but never use it!!

So how about you??

Cheers - JJ
The extension link here also... I do swim, but I rarely (never) dive...

Also... the chrono function on my Tudor Chrono. Do not use it too much... but it looks cool ;-)

Actually, for me the bezel on the sub is of more use, as a reminder.

... have to admit that I do not use the GMT function too much either... but way more than the extension link

Best,

Stop fooling around, that is just silly.

It is of course the Helium Relief Valve if you watch is so equipped.

Mine would be the date on my vintage OD.

I never bother setting it correctly...plus I have MS outlook to tell me what the date is.

My Sub has been to 130ft and back on numerous occasions, I have also used the dive suit link extension twice. I use the rotating bezel for decompression times, but mainly rely on my dive computer for that. I have never been below 160ft so no need for the Sea-Dweller, though I do want one eventually.
The most useless part of any Rolex is the option to go Platinum or White Gold when it looks the same as SS and is not as tough.

I agree with your first post as long as it is qualified as this - a Rolex one of the toughest Mechanical watches on this planet.

The second part "the HEV.Its widely used by the professional saturation divers out there," is not true. It is occasionally used by a few, but to say any watch is widely used for Saturation Diving would be a great exaggeration.

LOL, I am guilty too though. I bought a 18K YG DD a few years back and rarely wear it. Something about gold/plat on a Rolex is tempting, but nothing feels better on my wrist than the SS Submariner.

It was the Cyclops:

Now the beautiful dial is unobstructed and the date is visible without doing the "Rolex salute."
