The Sub and the GMT are the only Rolex watches that I would ever consider owning. Along with the Sub I am including the Seadweller as I have owned a couple of them and the new Deepsea. The rest of the Rolex line, with the possible exception of the Explorer, has no appeal to me. So I guess I am just the opposite.

Thankfully we have differing tastes here at TRF. If not, things could get boring in a hurry. There is a Rolex out there for all of us. Enjoy.

I noticed the other day in an interview with James Cameron that he was wearing a SS submariner. I've seen him doing some of his underwater adventure documentaries wearing what looked like the same watch. Here's a man who could wear any watch he wanted and chooses the simple SS Sub.

But then there's definitely a hard core adventurer in that man so I'm not surprised. Doesn't seem that he's too worried about being seen wearing what everyone else is wearing.

To me the Subbie has a simple elegance. On the SS model, usually there are no diamonds and polished center links. There are a lot of them in the wild, so it has become iconographic. Of course, if you are a Bond fan, the Subbie is the "go to" watch.

No, no... don't get me wrong. I might have worded this better but the Sub rarely ever really changes (at least the SS version) while the GMT goes through periodic "enhancements" that I'm guessing are to stimulate sales. Don't know much about the Daytona's other than that they seem to be very popular right now.

If you are a fan of the Daytona and do not understand the appeal of the Sub then I can tell you that I know exactly what you mean... only in reverse!

Here is a smaller version of the last pic I studied for months before coming to my decision on the Sub over the GMT. Basically, I chose the Sub because it is not as flashy (though I would love a version of the Sub with ceramin bezel). Not a fan of polished bracelets.

The Sub and the Datejust to me are the most iconic watches because in 50+ years they have changed so little and they share a damn good movement which will keep good time even with the odd bump or two. Ok. I own both so I'm biased...

My first love was the Sub. As soon as I could afford it, I bought the TT Blue Sub. I have had it for 5 years and love it as much now as I did when I first go it.

The irony is that I usually hate the quotidian and I think a lot more people have the sub over the GMT. However, I had to get my Sub.

I'm mad I'm not wearing it today

I do like the GMT and could see myself buying it in a few years, but the Sub was my Grail watch.

It doesn't do much for me, either.

My wrist doesn't like 40mm+ watches.

It likes 36mm watches.

To each his own. I think the Sub is the qunitessential Rolex, embodying all the qualities that the brand stands for, such as good looks, toughness and elegance. Then again, I dislike the shape and looks of Ferraris and Porsches and would never buy one, even if I had the money.

A green limited was my first Rolex I have since swapped it for a Yachtmaster SS which I still own. I have never missed the Sub and have had several other Rolex sporrts models,the new Sub holds no real appeal though a single/double red will be a watch that I will own in the future (the older ones do appeal to me)

I love the Sub. I thought the Datejust was THE iconic Rolex, but after having the opportunity to own one it was not the right one for me (still hugely iconic). I like the sporty watches better, and I would love to own a Sub one day.
