Hello

I’ve recently visited Mount Street and had a nice chat, didn’t get onto anything too much in detail.

What was your experience if you don’t mind me asking? Was it their jewellery?

Thanks

So the OP post is absolutely BS Just left Selfridges - Not only did they have NO PM watches Available except a ladies two tone datejust but they have no Professional models either. I spent about 20 min chatting with the AD about the market. He said used is way slower but new watches are still hard to get. They have several used watches all at high prices through the new Rolex pre-owned program with 2 year warranty but they were all silly prices

Seems a bit like car dealers still asking for market adjustments over MSRP. Still trying to catch the few remaining suckers out there.

yes they'd prefer to bundle with their jewelleries, and if in points terms, buying a £10k jewellery will be worth 20k points on your spend history whereas a £10k non-rolex/patek/in demand watch spend will land you 10k points instead.

a watch such as the PP 5980/1R you'd need to bundle approx. £80k jewelleries.

They've recently expanded their shop into next door space and had taken on a lot of ex-Wempe SAs since they closed down business in old Bond street. I do enjoy attending their PP and Rolex events from time to time but haven't really bought many from them these past few years due to their ridiculous bundling demand.

Thanks for this!

Would you say that they are quite open? I am going to go back soon and maybe try and usher the conversation that way?

I think they'd be happy to have that conversation with you. The SA gets more commissions by selling jewelleries, less in demand watch products.

As a heads up, they know the 2nd hand market very well, so say if you wish to buy a sub that can be flipped for +5k on the grey market, they'd expect you to make a bundling purchase of jewellery or watches in that price region.

I’d forgotten about it actually, but cut to the chase

He said he’d called nearly everyone on the list & got pretty much the same reply

‘It’s not the right time currently’ or similar excuses.

That’s a list of £3,590 UK Sterling,so if they are struggling to shift those then £30k to £80k watches may take a little longer lol

Was in Bluewater yesterday. All the usual AD’s had plenty of stock. New Opaline dial GMT, both the white and black chronos, 39mm Pelagos. Walked past Watchfinder and there wasn’t a single person in there. Just employees tapping away on their laptops.

100% correct.

The cost of childcare in the UK is the highest in the world.

For some context and to add to the conversation, I pay £800 a month for my 2 year old to go nursery for 2.5 days a week.

That’s basically the same cost as my mortgage.

The UK has been hammered, food shopping has shot up around 40%.

Teachers are on strike currently, the unions want a 33% pay increase.

It doesn’t seem out of the world to me. One of my colleagues sources his watches through a dealer that will routinely sell him desirable SS models but he has to purchase a non-Rolex PM piece as well.
