Chance upon this comment, posted by a collector from Hong Kong (according to his FB profile), about the Starwheel in a FB group today.
"Everyone is getting calls re this one. They don’t seem to be selling. I looked at it yesterday but decided against it based on it being a Code and very much overpriced for what should be priced between a time only watch and a Chrono. They’ve been hounding me and multiple collectors I know to take these off them." Is the demand for Starwheel really this bad? |

While I was also personally disappointed by a few things of the star wheel after I saw it in person, I would still pick it up if offered to me at retail price. |

There are twice as many blue ceramic RO QPs listed on C24 than Code Starwheels. I would be very surprised if they had difficulties shifting the few pieces every boutique gets per year.

This is fake news, I talked to 2 collectors last week, one from Italy, one from Germany. They are ready to buy, have requested and have the purchase history. But no Star Wheels are coming through. If this would be right, prices would be lower on the market also. |

HK and eastern markets could be completely different than western markets. It would surprise me that the starwheel isn't selling there, but I don't find it unfathomable .
The piece is extremely limited, and of the pool of qualified buyers in HK, there could be a common sentiment that it's not something they would like long-term. Unlikely, but possible. Value wise it isn't worth the flip to their AP relationship (for most qualified buyers a ~15-20k profit after fees and taxes isn't much at all *see apjourneyfail). There's no doubt a plethora of unqualified buyers ready to jump at meager profits, but maybe AP HK is doing some good due diligence on the limited number of starwheels they receive.

I wouldn't flip and would jump at the chance.

My impression
As someone that primarily wears integrated bracelets, the Starwheel did definitely impress me in real life. Especially the aventurine dial and polished surfaces of the wheel "rims" and bezel, the watch really does shine. The Code has evolved and improved over the years and with the latest releases, evident of a more cohesive and thoughtful style. I was fortunate to be allocated one but it did require seeing in person as it is truly greater than the sum of its individual parts.

I'm also quite baffled by the comment I saw. I don't see the need for the fake news (unless he felt by doing so, he increases his chances of allocation but doubt it will work) but at the same time, sounds totally different from my understanding of the demand for it. From what I heard, though the Starwheel is not a LE but it's a limited production run.
Comment is from a AP FB private group. Can't see what's posted in the group unless you are in it. |

BS... about a month ago I checked in with my boutique manager to check on things. Starwheel and Jumbo are 1a and 1b on my list. I asked which was currently more difficult and was told Starwheel by a good bit. Further evidence? I'm picking up the Jumbo this weekend. I'm also in Asia.
If it's the AP FB group that I'm familiar with, I wouldn't put any stock in what's stated there. |
