Bologna is pretty near Venice and Modena so a great base for a few days of fun.

I went to Rome quite a few years ago and the robbers were dressed as policemen, which a tourist would have no clue about, so they were very sophisticated even back then, had I had a decent watch on then for sure that would have gone, I wouldn't risk it now watches are such visible currency frankly in any large city.

There is always a poster on these threads who likes to post this and I’m not sure why.

I would not wear a Rolex to Rome.

Last year I wore my 12 Sub date in Rome, Florence, then Greece and Turkey. For the most part no worries what so ever. I had a sketchy feeling only twice (crowds in Rome and in Turkey). These were tourist spots, not residential area or high end restaurants where you will be fine. These were instances where I knew someone was not just glancing at my wrist but seeing what I was wearing.

I don't even want to think about it this year so I am going over with the BB41 Monochrome. Aluminum bezel is less flashy and fun to swap rubber and 5 link bracelet.

I just returned for 2 weeks in Italy. Venice, Florence, Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri & back to Rome. Rome is just a big city with a few things to see.

No one ever payed any attention to my watch.

Everyone is more interested in the churches, art & Roman & Phoenician ruins than anything else.

Relax & have a great time!

I just returned from 2 weeks in Italy, and my girlfriend and I both wore Rolex’s and never felt unsafe, but we were mostly in Florence and northern Tuscany. I don’t think Rome is any riskier than Houston, but if I were primarily sightseeing in Rome we would have probably worn Tudors or Omegas. Just one less thing to worry about in a big city.

A Rolex is only safe to wear in your hometown. Wherever your hometown may be.

I have (took my Sub to Rome and Florence), but that was 2015 - 2017. I am in the market for a travel GMT that I won’t regret being lost or stolen for my next trip (in other words, a cheap one).

No and I’m from Rome. Please do not wear Rolex unless you want to ruin your holiday.
We can spot miles away (to use your units) that you are a tourist and we are only waiting for that.

What a strange way to put it
Your wording suggests that you yourself are on the lookout to steal watches lol

i don't understand how this question is still asked. if you're asking it that means you're concerned so why bother bringing it and risk having it ruin your vacation. god forbid you go a week without wearing a rolex

Love Italy and have both lived and honeymooned there. Quite safe.

That said, I do not recommend a tourist wear a Rolex in Rome.

Rome did not feel unsafe… i would wear mine…
No idea about Greece, though Cyprus was full of Rolex wearers, would imagine Greece tourist areas to be the same.

I would not wear a Rolex in France though… (and I am from there)

If you have to ask…

No.

So it’s a no.

(…Anyone who can afford to lose it, wouldn’t).

One can get robbed in any city in the world. It all depends on the specific area you find yourself in. I don't believe that a city will be full of robbers; they are likely found in specific areas. Therefore, be well-informed before you move to places you are not sure of, and make sure you appear confident when you are out.

Because it is statically the truth.

And because some members here wear their watches everywhere.

This is so funny ... do you honestly think a profiling thief/robber would care less about the difference between fencing an Omega or fencing a Rolex ? This has to be the funniest post I have ever read on here....

I was in Rome a couple of Years ago, wearing my 16610, sitting outside a restaurant near Vatican City, the owner came out and suggested I take off my watch, he had many clients robbed as they sat outside, he also mentioned being robbed at the cash register at gunpoint a few Months before.

Therefore take care, sad but true.

Hah! I am a Seiko/Grand Seiko fan. My wrists are on the smaller side, so looking for something 40mm or smaller in case diameter.
