Ed White 321 all day long over a Sub. I love Subs for the tool watch workhorse they are, and own a handful of 4,5, and 6 digit examples, but unless the Sub was a rare reference it’s just a watch. They’re referred to as the Texas Timex for a reason, I see them a handful of times a day.

A simple rule: No matter how iconic the watch is, if you’re not wearing it, it has to go. In this, you’re trading an easy to replace watch (Sub) for a hard to replace watch (Ed White) that is arguably Omega’s flagship. Do it.

At the time I didnt know much myself and got it because I came into some money and wanted an all-steel watch and it was the de-facto watch to get. For me the super case Sub, even more so at 41mm... they're the watch for people who dont know watches. This is gonna be very controversial! |

It’s funny the speedie is a great watch but I reckon I could literally count on the fingers of one hand the number of people I’ve ever seen actually wearing one.
Ditto the sub is a great watch but they’re hardly hanging off every other bloke’s wrist the way some go on about them on here. At least not in my neck of the woods, perhaps east coast and west coast USA but I doubt it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

321 is nice but overrated. Make sure you try it on your wrist before committing.

I love many of the early Subs. But for me, if it doesn’t have a maxi dial like the glossy dial 16800 and all of the 16610/14060, I don’t like it. That said, I am a guy who knows watches and I love my 116610. I certainly did not buy it for the reasons you’ve listed. I started obsessing over that particular model when it was first released. At that time I did not know much about the differences in Sub models, I just knew that one always drew my eye when internet window shopping. Completely based on aesthetics! I didn’t even know at the time it was the “new model” I just liked it better. Also at that time, I didn’t know the Sub was a popular model. I always thought the datejust or day date were the definitive Rolex. When Biggie said “throw your Rollies in the sky” I never saw a sport watch lol! I do like the red sub a lot as well but I know I’d destroy an acrylic crystal in short time! Personally, I love my 116610 because it defies the look of the infinite amount of 16610 and 1680 “homages”! The proportions of that design era were off the map and one of the biggest jumps Rolex ever made in a single update. So while I do agree that many people who “just wanted a Rolex” who were was also buying during the huge bubble did buy the 11 series sub/sub date, you can’t generalize. I don’t want you to have that opinion of me if you happen to see a pic I posted with my sub. It’s my absolute favorite watch and I’m still over the moon when I put it on. It could say any brand on it and I’d still like it better than a 5 digit sub. Lastly it’s not a “presence” thing either because I also have a 36mm Explorer (my 2nd fav) and I had a 1956 34mm OP which I let go because it needed more service than it was worth unfortunately… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Also, you buy watches dependent on how popular they are? You don't like others having the same watch? Strange take imo. |

If you must sell something to fund the 321, I’d sell the Snoopy.
I owned both (very briefly) and the 321 is still with me |

I personally have tried to make my collection consist of watches I am very unlikely to see on someone else’s wrist. If you want to wear the same thing everyone else does, more power to you. But it certainly isn’t “strange” if someone doesn’t feel that way. Different strokes and all. |

It’s not for me, i wouldn’t do it if someone traded straight across. But the 321 isn’t something i could wear everyday, and i don’t like the bracelet.

Not a huge fan of either. The Speedmaster is my all time favorite watch, but the 321 is a bit off to me. They had the right idea with reissuing the 321 movement. But the watch itself isn’t my cup of tea (I was offered one when they came out as I had been on the list but I turned it down). I would sell the 6 digit Rolex, buy a 5 digit and a Speedmaster 821 or 1861 and be happy.
My two most worn watches are a 1861 and a Sea Dweller 16600. |

Regardless if you are a "true" watch person ("they're the watch for people who dont know watches.") - I'd suggest to anyone that you buy what you like and want to wear. I could give a rats a$$ what anyone else thinks - as I wear watches that please me and fit my active lifestyle. 80% of the time it is one of the subs I own (lately the 12 series), or the GMT, or one of the daytonas. So, you do what please you would be my suggestion

I love the 321 and keep watching them as prices have been coming down.
If you don't love the sub move it. Im not sure on the $ though You may be better off just selling your sub and getting a 321
