My platinum DD did the trick for me. Now I'm sick and it's time to unload it so my wife doesn't get stuck with it.

Started in 1994 with a 14060 and finished in 2011 with my Hulk. I bought eight watches from just two ADs. Since 2020 they couldn’t get me any new watches, so I basically finished my new Rolex journey there. However, I started my vintage Rolex journey in 2022.

Mine has been over for a bit now. I still love the one I have. Started out many years ago with my first Sub, then tried a DJ for a bit, and now I have the Exp II. The journey stopped for me because at some point walking into an AD was no longer the experience as a customer of a higher end watch experience. It turned into the AD game everyone complains about, I dont enjoy Rolex that much nor have the patience for that. Once that ends I may start looking at newer models again, but for now I have started a new journey into micro brands or other brands that are more readily available.

I don’t think the watch journey ever really ends. What I’ve learned over the years is that it just keeps evolving. Back when I was younger, my dream was to own a SS Daytona, but like a lot of folks, I had to settle for a two-tone Sub because I didn’t have the funds—and let’s be honest, SS Daytonas were impossible to find even back in the late ‘80s anyway. Grey dealers weren’t really a thing either, this was way back when the internet was just starting to take off—Google wasn’t even a thing yet!
In 1994, I gave up hope on the SS Daytona from an AD so I finally sold my TT Sub and upgraded to a brand-new TT Daytona with a white dial. That was my only watch until 2004, and I wore it non-stop. Since then, though, I’ve lost track of how many watches have come and gone from my collection. I’ve done some pretty wild consolidations too. After +30 years in the hobby, and having owned pretty much every professional reference out there, I’ve gravitated towards a Platinum Day-Date and a handful of professional models. I used to be all about the professional series, but now I’ve branched out into AP and Patek, while keeping some Panerai and Cartier pieces as more casual, summer beaters. Right now, I’m only on the waitlist for two pieces at Rolex: a white gold Daytona on Oysterflex (never had one before) and the new yellow gold Sky-Dweller on Jubilee. We’ll see how that goes. Now that I’m in my 50s, I’ve come to appreciate the journey itself more than anything. I’ve had almost every modern professional reference over the past decade including white & black ceramic Daytona’s, BLNR, BLRO, CHNR, Blue dial SkyD, etc, but have ended up with neovintage since I find them more sophisticated and historically relevant, primarily aligned to my youth. I’ve held on to what I consider those iconic pieces—my BLRO, a Zenith Daytona in SS, another Zenith Daytona in TT (yep, the same one from 1994!), YM II WG, and two neo-vintage Subs. I think a lot of us eventually gravitate towards a Day-Date. Funny enough, if you’d asked me 10 years ago if I’d ever own one, I probably would’ve laughed and said, ‘That’s an old man’s watch!’ Well, I guess I’m officially an old man now, lol.

I've been pining away from this very question for a few months now; without getting into it, either 2025 with an LV, or if not then I'll unknowingly have been done since 2023.
Rolex journey. Watch journey? Not until I acquire my 'grail', which may actually never happen. Last edited by kritameth; 18 November 2024 at 08:02 AM.. Reason: Clarification. |

I think I have the perfect pair: 124270 and 16570 polar .I like how these 2 watches complement each other whilst still having similarities.Do I need another?

It won't end.
When I started buying Patek, I though I had "upgraded". I appreciated the complications and the tiny little details that Patek does to their watches. I wore my Rolexes less and less and then stopped wearing them for a month or two. But then I put my Rolex watches back on, and I got that "Ahhh" feeling. Everything just felt like home. I forgot how much I liked wearing watches with well made metal bracelet. All my Rolex watches rugged and I don't have to baby them when wearing, but at the same time they are not as bulky as brands like Omega. |

For me, it was right after people started calling it a journey.

I aim to be done EOY '25 with Rolex, but not my love for the brand, just my journey. I'm angling for a PT DD36 & IDK if I could justify another cash-drop like that again with my CFO (wife).
Add a late MY 964 & you'll never see me again...

I started in 1979 with w sub date, finished this past June with a new BLNR which was my 7th Rolex. Plenty of other great watches and not getting more because it’s just too many choices lol…plus my wife may shoot me….

With Rolex specifically, I’m content with what I have since I have pretty much proxied all my heirlooms allowing them to sit pretty in storage. There’s nothing else in the catalog that is interesting.
However, not done with watch collecting journey in general. Still looking forward to adding another Tudor. Patiently anticipating their new in house chronograph to enter general production. Other brands I am interested in adding include a Ulysse Nardin, and maybe a Royal Oak down the line. |

I am done (own 4 Rolexes)… but just for a while. My next two-three targets won’t come from Rolex but if I achieve the goal, I am sure I will continue with Rolex cause it is my favourite brand and the one that, overall, fits better with me and my usual outfit.

I've been done for a while. It pretty much ended with my getting an OP like my first Rolex. Nothing I really want anymore. I don't wear the ones I've got much.

I have never been interested in anything else than Rolex. I am now down to 4 and am looking to get rid of 2 more.

I think I actually finished just a week ago with a purchase of 126900... Now I have the Rolexes I want, I also have the Rolexes I'll be giving to my children when they get their professional degrees.
Bit of a strange feeling after 20+ years - I'll prolly be buying more watches in the future but not necessary Rolexes and definately not waiting years to get one :D |
