The original information you presented was all-inclusive: all ADs were receiving the letter, and the production cutback would affect all professional-line models. Now, in the face of reports to the contrary you're saying the letter may not be sent to all ADs, which is a contradiction of the information you were provided, assuming you reported it correctly. You can understand why, in light of your first post, someone working for an AD who has not yet received the letter might want to take issue with that part of your reporting.

It also now appears as though you're saying that because ADs aren't receiving all sports models, that's evidence of the claim that production of all models is being cut back. Those are two different things. Am I reading you correctly?

I appreciate you reporting the information you receive, and encourage you to continue to do it.
Good afternoon. Let me clarify (I typed as i was about to board). What was discussed during the meeting mentioned all ADs receiving the letter, yet, a lot of people replied angrily that the letter did not exist and/or thier AD had not received it. On that, I shared what I knew, so going into the 'I said-you said' game will lead nowhere.

Now, one of the ADs sitting with me had just received a shipment from Rolex....Hulk, Batman, SkyDweller, SS Daytona. Even with that shipment, he had received the letter stating production cut back on all professional line products (from SS to PM). So, the fact that he just got a big SS shipment is not proving that the letter is invalid or non existent. I do know, by sitting next to him, he did get both the shipment AND the letter.

I know that with this, here will come another wave of 'I have not received/my AD has not received' that communication....once again, I will share what I know for sure.

Sorry if my answer earlier today could be misleading.

Cheers!

Hate to burst anyone’s bubble here but our firm hasn’t gotten any indication of shortages except in reality.
It’s business as usual for us.
There will not be a letter to ADs from Rolex confirming a cutback production of professional models. It may be a fact that they cut back production ( but I don't think so), but they are not going to put it in writing to the ADs. It's not going to happen like that. They don't announce strategies and tactics like that, and certainly not by letter. If it were publicly traded, that info would be on an earnings call. Have you ever seen such as an AD?

Can I trade in the dinner for a Bond raffle spot? They seem to be hotter than a white 116500 or blue SS SkyD...

Thank you for the info!!

I was told something similar this weekend when I visited the AD up here in Ontario. It's going to be harder to get more in-demand watches ... going forward

The AD has waiting lists for all Professional models (Subs, GMT, Explorer and of course Daytona, Sky-D etc)

My guess is Rolex plans to increase prices later this year and they are cutting back production to increase demand so they can sell them for more later in 2018. It's the only thing that really makes sense to me ... why stop making the watches that most people want?!

I live in a small market. Over the last 3 years we lost one AD (not sure why).

I believe over the last 24 months the demand is up considerably, would expect more so in the Far East.

If that Far East demand was for watches that retailed for higher prices, or were more profitable than the professional watches what would you do?

IMO Demand is up world wide. Rolex is only shifting production to the models with higher demand and higher profitability. In the end one of the consequences of this shift will be a price increase on the lower priced SS watches to bring their profitability into line.

+1

Supply heading far east is theoretically the right thing to do.

100% agree. This is standard practice in many industries: have a reason for raising price, and what's easier to argue than demand>supply....

Agree but shortage has been for a while now. 500C was released two years ago and still no where to be found! I doubt they have been planning this for two years!

Wow. That would suck if OP's AD friend was lying to him.

Would Rolex send such a letter to some ADs and not send the letter to others?
