Just got this today from my future father in law. He says it's his first PP watch and would like me to have it.

Not exactly my taste but I still appreciate it and it's free!

Hahaha! I want one right now too. I have a piece on the way soon. It is not a Patek, but I am planning ahead for a big purchase in a couple of years. I want a 5980/1R-001. I picked up too many pieces this year, so I will have to recoup a bit first. If things go really well, perhaps less than two years.

Of course, if anyone would like to gift me one, I will see that the powers that be in the universe find you eternally blessed......

Haha thanks guys.

I am eyeing the 5980/1R myself, but also like the Platinum Daytona, hmmm, going to be a tough choice though, Daytona is cheaper and more wearable, whereas I can see many occasions I should leave the 5980/1R at home.

Not only is that a beautiful piece but it's one of the few that's truly a perfect fit. Notice how that gorgeous cal 240 is perfectly sized for the case? No spacers required. Also the watch is perfectly framed by the bones of your wrist. Classically proportioned and without the oversized look we're used to seeing where the lugs extend to, or even beyond, the edges of the wrist. Classicism at it's finest! The dial asymmetry may not be everyone's cup of tea, but what you have there sir is one very fine watch. (And one very generous father-in-law!)

Are the 1st and 3rd pics the same watch, or is the first one the gold version? I'd love to get a nautilus that could be switched up between bracelet and strap, but didn't think it was possible...

The first one would be the rose gold model, it also comes in white gold but I'm not sure you can buy the stainless steel bracelet and make it fit. If you can, you may want to make sure the color difference isn't obvious (unless you don't care about that, of course).

No worries, at times pictures with different lightings can make us hesitate a lot.
