Clapton. one you probably have never heard of Phil Keaggy (and he does it with 3 fingers!). Hendricks was once asked what does it feel like to be the best guitarist in the world, and he said, i dont know, ask Phil Keaggy!

That was Dec 18th, 1981. The last song from the last concert date of that tour and Keef's birthday. He handles that Tele very well.
Later that night Keef bailed the guy out of jail..........stills owes him $200.00!

Eddie Van Halen seems to have gotten more out of the instrument than most...to my ear, anyway. He's astounding, with no limitations.

I forgot to mention...the incomparables, Adrian Belew & Robert Fripp. Belew played with Bowie, Talking Heads, Zappa, and of course King Crimson.

This clip is insane!

David Gilmore

Jeff Beck
Jimmy Paige
Les Paul
In no particular order.

These are my favorites but I can't claim they are the best. Just who I like. I think you would have to play at a level I will never approach before you can really say who's the best. Everyone mentioned in this thread is worthy.

No, it's actually William Kanengiser from the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet who coached and played those pieces, as well as the rondo alla turka that Ralph M played during his recital in the movie!

and the classical piece played to beat the devil ( Vai ) is a combination of pieces by bach and paganini! ( Toccata and fugue in d minor )! Satriani has nothing to do with the movie!

Keefs watches

As I mentioned somewhere else on this site I bought my first watch after seeing a picture of Keef taken from an interview.
He mentioned in the interview that he'd won it off Jeff Beck.
I liked the look of it and it turned out to be a Cartier Panthere - That was ages ago but he has quite a few tasty watches, as does Lou Reed.

Anyway, back to the guitarist malarky:

It's a bit tedious everyone stating their favourite guitarist, so a couple of years ago I started a forum on zappa.com where everyone voted for who they considered the most overated guitarist and it started thus:

I'll start the ball rolling in no particular order:

1 Pete Townsend - I've never heard him play anything I couldn't play and I'm the worst guitarist I know.
2 Eric Clapton - Average pub band talent I would say, but to be fair he's probably more Housewifes Choice rather than Guitar Musos
3 Jimmy Page - I think I must be missing something as too many people rate him highly for him to be as ordinary as I think.
4 Slash - Why??
5 The Edge - You are kidding of course?

I'll leave the others for everyone to debate, as I'll be busy avoiding the death threats etc., that I will now be getting - after all it is a very serious subject!

Moving swiftly on to watches: I'm searching for a Sinn bereft of date - Similarish to an Explorer. I'm sure I saw one somewhere but may have been mistaken? Any clues anyone?
As always, comments are much appreciated.

For clean tone, epic solos, and great song writing... David Gilmour.

A close second is Mark Knofler for the same reasons!

Who doesn't love some Eddie Van Halen... but you may not have seen this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdFJTbaFcZ0

My apologies to the purists!

A lot of great players have been mentioned. Many of them inspired me to play guitar. Listening to folks like Eddie Van Halen caused me to try harder so that one day I could play something like that.

Listening to Eric Johnson made me want to burn my guitars, because I knew I could NEVER approach that level of talent.

And how`bout this?

B.B. King (father of modern blues guitar)
Gary Moore
Carlos Santana
Eric Clapton
Mark Knofler
Ritchie Blackmore
and...

Vlatko Stefanovski, Macedonian guitar player, not known to many, but Mr. Knofler many times said that he`s fastest in the world!

Check this out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5LJA...eature=related

or maybe this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h-sW...eature=related

All of these songs are old Macedonian ethnic songs, but in Vlatko`s arangement, they sound like something from Santana`s earlier opus. Check out his solos!
