I don't hate the brand. I, unfortunately, just don't have the wrist size to pull off a 44mm watch. The PAM 88 GMT would be the one I would get though......

the 88 is a great choice!

if you think it's too big, though, you could consider the 244, which is 40mm. it doesn't have the skeleton hands or silver subdial, but, its case is brushed and the dial is a little cleaner without all the hash marks.

88 vs. 244:

Yeah, the 244. I have a shot at a used "M" series for $5.3K box & papers. I have enough straps for it, at 22mm. If the bracelet from the 241 fits I'll have to give the deal some thought. And maybe some negotiation.

The only thing I hate about Panerai is..well not me, but my WALLET hates it!

i don't like Panerai because not so many local ADs carry them. They like to do business with Rolex Watches more tho.

May be Panerai got too many replica and fake watch in the market ..... Some more the movement of AAA grade replica Panerai can compete with the genuine one even u swift the part of the replica gear of calibre to the genuine calibre....

I love Pams and own an 111 (don't wear it that much lately though). To my understanding people who look down on it do it because of size primarily. Some also associate it with trendy and/or Stallone type guys (good or bad depending on taste). WIS guys will tell you about ETA. My own only concern with PAM, my 111 at least, is that it doesn't go well with any type of formal attire. It just looks a bit funny with a suit in a business environment. With casual wear I just love it. Just an opinion.

Why does anyone care what/why others like/dislike something? I don't get it.

haters going to hate, and I guess they have lots of time on their hands to hate.

I would NOT purchase a Rolex over a Pam any day, in fact, I had the chance to in Sept, and opted NOT to get the TT Rolex Sub I had wanted and saved for. Not sorry at all, quite happy with my selection.

Well, maybe this gets OT, but as the old cynic that I am, approaching Andy Rooney's pH, I think it's partially due to the nature of "social media." People (not I) have their Facebook pages and spend much time "conversing" with their opinions and reading those of others. That's what we're doing here as well...

I try to filter what I read here, and elsewhere, and balance with my own feelings. To wit:

"Popular" wisdom is that Panerai are large, should wear large and people should go with 44 at least, and 47 even seems preferred. I bought a 40mm and have no issue with it. In fact, I find the 44 to be too large FOR ME, in appearance, and weight. I think Panerai looks fine at 40mm.

The key is YMMV and I don't care if everyone who sees my PAM 241 thinks I'm a girly-man for wearing it.

People dislike Panerai because they haven't seen the PAM 441.

I'm a GMT junkie and enjoy having one in rotation. Size is definitely hefty but that's what makes it so much fun to alternate between. Daily it is pretty "strong" but truly love the clock.

I don't own a panerai yet but I will soon be buying a laminar 111. I have just recently discovered panerai and I am in love with it. It is now my second favourite watch brand (next to rolex of course)

Hmmm... Just returned home from a night out with the wifey. Put the AP in the safe and pulled out the PAM 111F.

Love Pam for casual wear - it's a great weekend watch and the whole strap thing is very addictive.

I hope they come out with a 44mm 372 style watch or a 44mm Bronzo Luminor because I would be all over either of those like a fat kid on an ice cream cone. :)

I am on my third Rolex, a EXP II 216570 which just arrived on Black Friday from my AD. Regrettably, It is not as striking on my wrist as I had hoped. Loved it in the store, patiently waited to sell my President on the Forum, succeeded, ordered and received EXP II and now re-thinking my decision.

The first time I saw a Pam, I thought to myself that is soooo FUGLY, but honestly, after a second, third and fourth look... I LOVE THE PAM now (it just took some warming up). I like different, and I like this brand!

I am seriously reconsidering a PAM right now, and POSSIBLY moving the EXP II over to someone who may appreciate more than I do. It turns out my black dial is a little harder to read time on than I expected with my 47 yr old eyes - the hands kind of blend in. I don't expect to have this problem w/ a PAM.

Decisions, decisions.

Hello all, new to the forum and a Rolex owner for many years. I am looking at a Panerai and the WWW led me to the Rolex forum LOL! Anyways, decided to join since I have been reading several threads on the Panerai.

My 57yo eyes appreciate the size and legibility.
Clarity is king for me. Panerai have it all over Rolex in this aspect.

I hope a Panerai finds its way onto your wrist. It's a move I'm sure will give you pleasure.

Cheers
Richard

I have the same issue and PAM is quite legible ;)

I wonder how many middle aged men cannot actually read their multi function, small handed multi dial chrono?

Interesting comments, but I go with experimental results. I have Rolex, IWC, and a Panerai 312. Last night I asked my wife which she likes most. Her response was that each watch has its purpose (travel, complete dress up, and everything else). She liked the Pan 312 with a dusty, vintage strap best, though there were places for the others. I wear the Pan most of the time---why? Because it is really artistically a winner, and it keeps good time. Now I wish I had a Pan GMT...but the simpler the dial the better. Hard to beat the face---simple, easy to read quickly, and wears easily. Why hate a watch??
