Hi, my name is Daniel and I joined last October. I actually found this forum looking for information on Omega. I had never really been into watches, but for my 30th birthday I thought a nice watch could be a good gift to myself, so I set out looking for a watch. I liked Omegas and looked at SMP:s and PO:s before deciding to go with a PO. I ordered it and in the meantime I looked around even more at watches, I waited and it never came, so I looked even more and I suddenly got interested in Rolex - of course a lot had to do with me started to frequently visit TRF. Finally I cancelled my Omega order and started looking at Rolexes instead.
First a thought I would get a GMT pepsi. Then I found out it was discontinued and I looked at the GMT-c, but I didn't like the supercase, PCL and ceramic bezel (although I didn't know this lingo then), and I didn't want to buy a pre-owned (although I have changed my mind since), and then I stumbled across the Polar EXP2 and I knew that this is the watch. So I took a close look at the for sale section and wrote down a few good names that had great reputation, and I waited until I saw that Oscar a.k.a Bodypump had a NIB Polar for sale, and I pulled the trigger a few days before new years eve, and I have enjoyed the watch immensely ever since. As for my next watch, I haven't really decide what to go for. The first problem with getting a new watch would be that I would have to leave my Polar at home, and that just doesn't feel right since it is an awesome watch. Like I wrote the new line of rolexes with ceramic and supercases just isn't for me and I'm not really a vintage guy either. Right now I'm looking at the SD 16600 and the 16710 GMT so I guess that makes me a discontinued watch kind of guy. As for my nick "capote" it was completely random, I just registered to be able to see all the pictures and I just looked in my bookshelf and wrote the first name I saw, if I had looked one book to the left I guess the nick would have been "Mario Vargas Llosa". I would also like to thank TRF and all the contributing members for a great forum with a seemingly unlimited amount of knowledge of Rolexes |

Hi , my name is Harry, and I'm a watchaholic.....TRF is a group of "enablers" My CPA hates this place... good thing is I pay his salary and I don't need to listen to his complaining about the FOUR ROLEX WATCHES I have purchased since joining TRF October 2010. Seriously,I VERY much appreciate everyone here, and have made several new friends along with a great buisbess contact,( David SW) who helped me in obtaining a rather expensive Rolex at a VERY good price. (THX AGAIN David!!). There are some first-class Moderators here ,no really I do mean that! You guys do a top job keeping all three rings running well in the TRF circus, I for one never lose sight of your time and efforts. If there's anything I can ever do to help.....all you gotta do is ask!

Hello from Upstate NY!

John here with a similar story as many of you. 42 now and very happy with my Expy II Black on my wrist. I'd gone through everything from Omega to Timex with a lust for a Rolex in my heart. I had been looking at them for years...often pestering my AD as a boy with questions. Now I am proud to own my own Explorer. Maybe a sub or Pepsi GMT next...or a GMT 2C? Anyway....all the best to all on the best Rolex forum.....TRF!

Rolex Forums
I bought a GMT and became a convert. I joined to learn as much as I can and have since bought two more vintage rolex, both subs. Here's my "collection"-rootbeer GMT, gilt gloss 5513, and tropical red 1680.

My Story
Dear Friends,
I used to lurk into this forum once in a while. For the last two weeks I have been checking this forum everyday, in fact several times everyday. Why? Well, you can guess that easily. I was about to pull the trigger on a new GMT IIc but all of a sudden I saw this Sub that a locan Canadian was selling. I fell in love with the watch and after meeting him in Vancouver I pulled the trigger Now I began visiting this forum more often. Yes, you guessed that right again Either a GMT II Pepsi and/or a vintage (Preferrably 1969) Sub are in my list now. The more I read the forums, the more I learn about the magnificent movements' amazing world, and the more I fall in love with them. Greetings to everybody Thanks a lot for creating such a wonderful forum where everybody feels home. We are a very unique family; Watch Lover Family . . . Capt. Serdal |

Hi all!! My name is Chuck and my watch fetish began after my grandfather died. He had a jar in his closet in what I think must have been all of his old watches. He had an old Welsa(winton), an accutron, a few Bulova's and two Hamiltons. I was with my dad at the time and he handed the jar to me. Said I could have it. I still have them.
That was nearly 30 years ago and probably close to 1500 watches ago. I taught myself how to disassemble and repair pretty much any watch. I can polish cases, crystals, replace gaskets, seals, tubes, crowns, stems, mainsprings, etc. I shy away from the more detailed repairs, jewels, hairsprings, etc. My favorite to work on are old mechanical chronographs. I only work on my own watches though. Very seldom work on anyone eleses and when I do, its for free. I am an engineer by degree and love the mechanics behind watches. I love Rolex because they build watches that last. I have one built in 1937. Still runs like a champ. I have owned them from the 40's. 50's, 60's and on up to today and they are all pretty much the same. Tough and elegant at the same time. Its just that simple to me. Ask any watch maker and they will tell you the same. I'm glad I found this forum and hope I can add to it in the future. |

David Marciano. I am pretty young (28) but have been collecting watches since 2000. My first watch was a movado, moving up quickly to a ss datejust with diamonds. As of now I have numerous watches ( WG DD which i am currently selling, AP Offshore rubberclad, Breguet RG Marine Big Date, and a Concord SS Impresario). Unfortunatly, I cannot wear most of these watches to work as i work in a CPA firm which means very conservative people who are also money hungary and from what I see, jeleous of people that flash money. So wearing my flashy watches is most likely a weekend deal. I really love rolex as their watches seem to be the most durable and are overall great watches. They produce all of their components and am not sure if other manufactures do that. I am looking foward to learning from this forum as well as meeting some decent people (the last part may be a problem as i already got an ostentatious PM from, I believe, one of the moderators). Well, that is about it.

Hello Everyone!
This is the best thing for watches hands down! What else could someone ask for?! Information, sales, jokes, women! Most importantly, the people on here are great! In my opinion, the time and effort put into this forum is unlike that of any other watch site. I am on this site a lot more than my posts dictate, and I want to share that I am going to actively make it a point to try and engage in more conversation and become more active. I have always been fascinated with watches, however, (for some strange reason I have been pondering as of late!) a Rolex never made it into my repertoire...that is until my first week of joining! I can honestly say that a big part of my day is looking forward to browsing this forum. I hope I can continue to grow as a member and want to thank everyone for allowing me the opportunity! Rob |

Newbie here. Love this forum. But, hey, am I the only one trying to get a handle on all the DSSD, TT. COSC, PCL? At this point I understand 'AD' and 'SS'. Good thing I'm OC, cause I can spend all my time at work checking out this site (WTF!). I suspect I'll be visiting this fine forum for a LLT (long, long, time). Cheers.

Howdy,
A female from the beautiful Midwest. I gravitated here after many years of collecting in luxury categories other than watches, so I was already well prepared for the kind of research and thought that goes into making a good first purchase decision. As I mentioned in my first post on TRF I didn't expect to fall in love with Rolex. I had some preconceptions about the brand. They were soon laid to rest once I spent time at ADs. The other watch brand I was initially pursuing just looked like nothing on my wrist, and Rolex swept me away. Less than 2 weeks ago I bought my Midsize Datejust. I must be a WIS in training because I immediately started thinking about its next big sister. Anyway, I thank all the generous souls here who share their enthusiasm and tech/nerdy detail, because knowing all that stuff is extremely fun for me. Cheers. |

Good Day All,
I'm Josh (tough to tell by the screen name, I know) from the midwest. I own an estate liquidation company and deal in antiquities and luxury goods. I have been a watch junkie for years, and always had some misconceptions about the Rolex brand. I did not wear a Rolex for a very long time. These boards have definitely laid that to rest, as I have a much deeper appreciation for the brand as I have aged. My first Rolex was the 6422 in my avatar. It is currently being serviced by Mr Ridley, and I look forward to getting it back into my rotation. The collection has been growing much more rapidly now that I have found these boards, and I am currently expanding to work on a Birthyear collection as well. I look forward to learning from, and sharing with, the great folks on this board! |

Hi, Des checking in from Perth, Western Australia,
Saw a pic of the 16613 in a mag one day and immediately fell in love with the watch especially the colour combo. Rang the AD here and they wanted an arm and a leg, so I asked my cousin to source the piece in HK and there was a substancial saving he reported. So in January 2010, I ordered the watch and my brother wanted the same whilst I was there, but they had sold out of the 16613 and had the 116613 instock, rang him and told him and he said 'That'll do" I spent 15 minutes in the Rolex AD buying 2 brand new watches and then spent 45 minutes in the Adidas shop buying 2 pairs of shoes Came back to Perth and wanted to find out more about this stunning time peice, so I googled Rolex Sub 16613 and went through many sites and presentations.....THEN!!!! There was this 'Review' by one JJ Irani!!!!!!! ..... I read his review and read the comments that followed by fellow members and thought to myself, wow! this site/forum is pretty cool. I then joined and introduced myself in the new members section and had so many members welcome me, I was overwhelmed. Over the next few months I navigated my way through the many threads and nearly got BANNED by The Welshwatchman, sorry Paul Long story short, I've since made many good friends here at TRF and have become a 2nd time pledged member and am so very proud of our great forum. We have a core group of us TRF members here in WA who GTG on a very regular basis and I love everytime we GTG, families included, great times, great restaurants, great wines and most importantly great dribble Recently purchased a new piece from David SW and I had to wait for 4 to 6 weeks for it to arrive...2 weeks to go. I'd mention David because many of you have. Hopefully I can purchase another one tomorrow from Dalip, we just have to negotiate I'm sure a deal can be struck. He is one of my favourite mates and I'd thought I'd mention him and give him a hard time TRF Rocks, love this place!

Hey everybody. I just joined because I just purchased my first (and currently only) Rolex, the Sub 16610 (RSN, made in 2010). I'm interested in learning more about the brand.
I own a Tag Link Cal 36, a Tag F1, and a Seiko Orange Monster but wanted a watch to eventually pass down to my son (and the Tag Link Cal 36 is really nice with a Zenith El Primero movement, but a Rolex Sub seems more timeless). |

Hi -
I am a retired architect (66) and used a GMT Master for travelling worldwide and a AP RO in steel/gold in turns. All this watches were bought in the 1970s and as a fulltime wearer I noticed the disappearing of the lume (Tritium) in the last 20 years. So I looked for a watch which I could read at night and bought a Panerei Luminor GMT. The noisy movement, the clumsy form and several other aspects brought me back to a Rolex 16610 VR. Now I am happy again and have all I need. Sometimes I change to some other watches in my "collection" (Patek, AP etc.) but my biggest problem is: I only have one wrist but several watches I like.... I am no hardcore collector - just what I bought for my use over the years. All the questions I had were answered on this great site by its great members. Thank you for that! Regards Postnikov |

Hello,
I'm Lisa and I joined TRF last month. I was on a purse forum and a member had posted a wrist pic of a men's Rolex Datejust she had just bought. Wow, this watch looked so amazing on her. I came across TRF via google search and I've been soaking it in for my research for "The One". The TRF members & sellers here are so helpful and really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable in asking newbie questions. This forum has a wealth of information for doing research on your watch of interest. After doing my research, my two top pics were: - Submariner 18K/SS Black Dial 16613 - GMT Master II 18k/SS 16713 Next, I went to a local dealer who specialized in pre-owned Rolex watches. I tried on all the sport models and the Rolex Submariner 18K/SS Black Dial 16613 was "The One". Yes, this one felt like it was made just for me. It took true will power not to just buy it on the spot. One week later, I went to my local AD and tried on the newest sport models. The newest 116613 didn't look or feel as great as the classic 16613 model did on me. In doing my research, I found out who were the reputable sellers here at TRF. I then put my name on a wait-list for a TT 16613. Days felt like weeks and weeks begun to feel like months as I waited. Last night I saw a posting for a Rolex Submariner 18K/SS Black Dial 16613 and "BAM" I pulled the trigger. This will be my first Rolex and I'm so excited I can't stand it. It's scheduled to arrive this coming Monday. I thank Tony aka "justrolexes" for the sale. Tony was very patient and went out of his way to answer my questions and provided even more photo's as requested. I also reached out to DavidSW and I thank him for his support. I'm so impressed with the TRF community and the give back support it provides. I highly encourage all sellers here to become Pledge Members. If you're making money off members, it only makes sense you show your support to TRF. I'll post pics next week under General Discussion. Thank you TRF! |

Hi
Sam here from the UK. Got into Rolexes after buying my wife one for her 30th birthday. It might be blasphemous to say it on this forum but i was previously more of a fan of digital watches - i think it stems from being a bit anal about getting ready in the mornings and needing to know specifically how much time i had/how late i am running. After my wife got her watch she bought me a TAG Chronotimer which is Ana/Digi. I then got a bit envious of her having a much nicer (Rolex) watch so bought myself a Milgauss GV to balance things out. Got into this forum because of the great info and atmosphere. I'm quite a fan of the watch out! section and am trying to learn more of the 'tells' on fake watches. |

Hello all. My name is Alin and i have discovered this passion not too long ago, compared with many users of this forum. I began to frequent watch forums late 2009, while i recover after an accident in which i have broke my leg. It all started with Omega, and now continue with Rolex. I have many favorite Rolex watches, i can't choose one! While i am writing this post i have a Submariner 16610LV but i would like to add a Gmt II Pepsi. Thanks
