I believe the lighting bolt is a symbol for science-engineering-electricty etc... If I was a scientist I would probably wear a Milgauss.

Just "circumnavigated this obstacle"
I bought the 2 parts in question - The Smurfs blue color

and placed them in a regular 116610 Sub-C after polishing the middle
of the oyster link bracelet.

Look at these TRF posts that have pictures of the two

For me it would definitely be the YM line. It just doesn't do anything for me. I got a chance to hold the YM II in WG - waaaaay too busy.

This thread is interesting! Just took the time to tally up the votes!
(Note: I did NOT separate votes based on bezel/face/band color/etc... cause I ran out of room on my post-it note. I counted all votes, not just first vote.)

Drum roll please!

The least favorite sport model countdown:

Watch: Votes

10) Sub: 2
9) Air King: 2
8) GMTII: 3
7) Daytona: 4
6) Explorer II: 5
5) Explorer: 7
4) DSSD: 9
3)YM: 9
2) Milgauss: 11

And the least favorite sport model is...
1)YM II: 20

Same with the lightning bolt on the Milgauss and the date and cyclops on a Sub.
The 3, 6, 9 configuration is in keeping with the lineage of the Explorer, a name that has graced the dial of a few models.

The Explorer did not actually go to the top of Everest, at least the model as we know it.

The members of the British Expeditions to Mount Everest were provided with Oyster Perpetuals and it was an Oyster Perpetual that both Sir Edmund and Tenzig Norgay wore or carried to the peak.

The Explorer we know today was introduced in 1953 to commemorate the conquering of Mt. Everest.

Most of this information I originally read in Jake's Blog and elsewhere.

The YM II may not be as aesthetically pleasing as many Rolex models, but it is the only watch of its kind in the history of horology and those who claim that Rolex doesn't make any complicated watches ignore this watch completely, besides not understanding the meaning of complication.

Frankly, the term Clown-Master is such a crude term that it doesn't belong in a Rolex discussion, especially when speaking of a watch so special that Rolex will not allow its certified watchmakers to even open one.

I'm not even sure if the RSCs are allowed to open one.

How can someone claim to appreciate Rolex watches and not appreciate the YMII enough to call it by its actual name?

I'm not fond of every Rolex model, but at least I can appreciate a Rolex for being a Rolex, regardless.

I had a hard time picking a sport Rolex that I didn't like, and this tally helps me understand why.

I think the YM II is a beautiful watch. The Milgauss is among my favourites(the first I ever bought). The number 3 ranked YM is, IMO, the perfect balance between sport and dress.

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.

That being said, the only sport model that I would never even consider buying is the Leopard Daytona. I only recently found out this is an actual Rolex, and not the result of someone having too much fun in Photoshop. However I'm sure some people find it beautiful.

Daytona - Dial and bezel too busy. I want to glance at my watch and know what time it is. With the Daytona this does not happen, especially with the white dial.

YM II - All I can say is WTF!

My vote has to be for the YMII with the original YM a close second.

I have been racing sailboats, including 12 metre's around the world over the last twenty years. I have only seen THREE YM's on someones wrist in all those years and then it was at the yacht club bar after the race. Two of the three watches were bought by the wearer's wives (yes I asked).

Neither the YM nor the YM2 provide the digital precision that helmsmen, tacticians or bowmen want and need to have at a glance on a starting line!

PURE MARKETING HYPE by Rolex. The most popular Rolex watches on racing sailboats: Submariner with DJ and GMT's a tie for second.

Oh yeah... I forgot the BLING factor... no one except a new lotto winner, dictator of a banana republic or a rapper would that have that much bling on their wrists at a real yacht club of any stature. LOL
