I bought my first one four years ago and went for the 36mm explorer despite the fact that I went in determined to buy a DJ. I think the explorer embodies all things Rolex - simplicity, elegance, reliability and durability.
But as many have already said, you really can't go wrong. |

my first rolex was the oysterdate a hand me down from my dad.
my first rolex (that i bought with my own money) was a two tone DJ. thinking back, i wouldve really loved the gmt2 or daytona.

My first Rolex was a TT Date 7050xxx series, with white face with printed roman numerals and gold markers.

I'd say a 16610 sub, or a 16610LV would be a great 1st Rolex.

definitely a Sub...or an Explorer II. Both would be good choices, rugged, tough, and right in your price range on the used market (depending on year, condition, of course)
