Yeh gotta say though guys the biggest thing of the points I made above that does my head in with omega is point 1. To be competing with Rolex and be taken seriously 007 has to go, by all means feature in the films but bloody hell a dial with 007 all over it is just pathetic. The ones with Olympics stuff all over them can also go, again taking it too far, the seamaster albatross/Montreal 1976 didn't need Olympics signs all over it and was fantastic

Having said all that I love omega especially the seventies styles like dynamic, flight master and speed sonic lobster etc etc, and the smp, speedmaster and po are great. just wish they would stop trying to be bloody Rolex all the time, because they are just not

One gripe I have about my SMP vs my Sub was recently discovered on a business trip to California.....The scalloped bezel of the SMP is a helluva much harder to turn when wet than the coin edge of the Sub. But that's about it.

Does Omega still use friction push pins in their bracelets? I have adjusted a few in store and the friction pics sort of turned me off.

There are still a few models that do, but they're moving away from it. They use a screw and pin system (a pin holding the link together secured by a screw on each side of the bracelet), and makes the adjustment so much easier. The old pin and sleeve bracelets led to a lot of swearing and bent pins at the shop

I hadn't seen a Rolex vs Omega thread in 36hrs and I was getting scared.

They're both great. Just depends really on your taste. I like them both myself but I also like the smaller Rolex models like the AK and OPD etc. I don't get all caught up with Submariner or GMTs etc. I feel just as at home wearing my AK as I do my 38mm Omega Speedmaster Date. I just like Swiss watches.

I own a Ploprof 1200m, a PO 2218.50, an Apollo 11 LE, and a SKyfall. Recently purchased a Pepsi. I am not impressed with Rolex. In fact, other than the fact that I wanted the Pepsi for the colors, I think Rolex watches are second tier to Omegas.

The only Omega I care for is my Grandads classy '65 gold capped Piepan Constellation. Their modern stuff is not worth a second look from me. Apart from the classic Speedmaster Pro of course.

I have had many Omega's in the past, but have always had a Rolex Sub as my main watch. If I was to buy a 2nd watch it would be an Omega Pro moon watch. For the shear good looks and history , value for money its hard to beat.

For some, maybe... but not all. Rolex is a fine brand. It is not the top brand for sure and there will never be a true winner here as to who is. There doesn't have to be... different people like what they like for different reasons. I will say, I have left the brand as I don't feel the price today is equal to the quality of the timepiece. It is only my opinion... getting harder to service with parts availability. Not everyone who wears a Rolex does so for an "ego boost.". Most, myself included, enjoy wearing a Rolex because of it's horological significance, outstanding quality and overall performance and style. Frankly, most non WIS types never notice what you wear. And so many watches are imitations of Rolex watches that it kind of negates that "look" anyway. I say wear what you like and one should never feel like they have to justify their purchase to anyone except themselves and maybe their significant other!

Although never owning one, I've always had a fascination for Omega. As a matter of fact, the day after visiting NASA in Houston I decided it was time to buy a Speedmaster, my first luxury watch. Well... AD was all out of Speedmasters, however, they did have plenty of Rolex. After sales agent told me a brief history of Rolex, and how the company is set up and invests in philanthropy, I was sold - left with a Datejust!

Unfortunately now although I have great respect for Omega, my brands of choice in this price range would be Grand Seiko or JLC for a bit more.
