I recently wore my Sub in Costa Rica with no problem whatsoever, and that's definitely rougher than Paris. Only comment I got was from a guy at my hotel who complimented and jokingly asked if I wanted to trade for his g shock. I figure if you are going to buy a rough and tumble watch, take it on adventures. Like a few have said, I called my insurance folks, made sure it was covered abroad and then wore it without concern. Unless you are wearing a vintage piece that is not easily replaceable, what is the worst that happens? You lose it and you get a new one :) That being said, always keep your wallet in your front pocket, but that may be the influence of growing up in a big city.

James Bond would not be afraid to wear his Rolex to Paris. But, if you still have doubts about wearing it, try the tactical watch cover ! ! ! !

Watch your generalizations OP And if you're that afraid of wearing a Rolex for a trip to Paris, and still want to go ....then just leave it at home until you've got some experience of Europe under your belt. I'd also say try not to look like a tourist...but I feel that advice may not be understood until you actually arrive. Judging by your level of experience with travel and culture (certainly within a European context) it seems fair to presume the imbedded ignorance of your generalization is due to this. In any case it's not a bad thing for you to be made aware of the 'disparaging' nature of such comments. Finally OP....if you don't understand anything I've said then PM me for further explanation. These points are not up for debate.

Insure it, which you should do no matter what...
And wear it, why buy something that you're scared to wear??? |

Just realised the question is not about wearing the watch in Paris but to Paris. I'd say it depends on the mode of transportation.

The gypsies are only a danger to you if you believe that they are not around. They spot us Americans because we use crosswalks. In Spain, they will tear a gold chain off the neck of a lady sitting in a bus while the bus is en slow route. All in all, you will be fine. I wore a nice Swiss watch when I was in Paris; I was fine. But I dressed like a student, not a tourist. Good luck!

Im not going to say it again.....cut out the generalizations still being made in this thread. It is not ok to cast dispersions across an entire group.
This is a worldwide forum ,...it doesn't start or end in your home town. This is the final warning.

In most pawnshops around the world, you can pawn your Rolex without a hitch should the need arise. Try that with a Patek, and I'm sure you'll find doing so more difficult. Just my 2 cents |

My wife and my daughter left their Rolexes at home but I chose to wear my GMT as I needed to know the time at home also. When I feel I should be cautious, I pull down the sleeve of my sweater to cover the watch.
A young woman tried to pick my back pocket riding up one of the escalators to the train platform. She was in front of me and waved for me to go ahead and that made me apprehensive so on the way up, I placed my right hand on my back pocket to check and caught her hand trying to pick a Cartier eyeglass pouch inside my back pants pocket. Maybe she thought it was a wallet. My wallet was in my front pocket. Before this incident I noticed a gendarmerie talking to a group of women. That was when I remembered seeing her with the group. I didn't report her. here: |

As someone who frequently goes to France....I say wear it! I've never had a problem with pick pocket'ers, but I keep my wallet in my front pocket at all times and stay alert. :)

Paris is one of the most expensive places on earth. I wouldn't be worried about a Rolex. IMHO.
