Of course.

These days, the fashion rules are less fixed anyway, even in the business world. I see suit clad men in downtown Los Angeles wearing backpacks. The traditional briefcase is seen less and less, particularly with younger men. Sport watches with suits? A non issue.

Surely a Rolex--any Rolex--is good to go with any attire, up to and including formal.

007 pulled off the Sub with a white dinner jacket look in 1964's "Goldfinger". Bond remains a icon for classy men's style.

In the end, a watch is a subtle reflection of one's personal style. Wear what you like.

The only suit one wears w/ a sub is a wet suit.

Absolutely not. You must wear a gold dress watch on a leather strap while wearing a suit.

I've worn my black SubC with a suit and I feel it works perfectly. I'm sure I would also think a DJ, Daytona, or DD look great with a suit but lets face it you can pretty much go with any Rolex and a suit.

About dress watches in "Forbes":

"In any case, as with Gianni Agnelli, so with Bond, James Bond –look in the mirror, and if you don’t see a hard-eyed, cruel-mouthed, chain-smoking, alcoholic, fictional man of the world suffering from clinical satyriasis, whose daily wardrobe includes a Berns-Martin cross draw shoulder holster and Walther PPK, then don’t pair a Rolex with a tux. Just, please, don’t."

Is that the quote word for word ?

Given the fact that Rolex have the Cellini range and also the several watches they offer on a leather strap, I think it's uninformed to simply say "don't wear a Rolex with a tux". I saw a white gold DDII that had been put onto a leather strap at an event a few weeks ago. I don't think any one can say that doesn't go with a tux ....

DD/DDII/DJ/DJII/Air king (fluted or smooth bezel) on a leather strap would be the good choices from the sports range imo. Otherwise a cellini would be great too. For me a dress watch (for a tux) should have a light face, (white, cream, silver etc.) and be on a leather strap. Also the dial should be simple and not cluttered which is why I don't think the Daytona works.

In an ideal world it would be a precious metal. That's why for me the DJ/DJII fluted bezel along with any DD on a leather strap is as good as it gets from the Rolex sports range. Then again I have a SS JLC Reverso and plan on getting the smooth bezel DJII and a strap to go with it, so I'm not even following the ideal with my own dress watches.

No, regardless of it's cost, it's still a casual tool watch. We're going to a very formal wedding this weekend in Delaware. Cocktail party at the home Fri night (probably a vintage TT Date or gold vintage Seamaster (, Sat night a black tie wedding, (Probably a vnintage Omega tank), Sun brunch (probably a vintage IWC cal 88). Technically I shouldn't even be wearing a watch with a Tux, but it will be tucked under my cuff so it won't be seen anyway.

I personally feel that one of the great appeals of Rolex is that literally any model (with the exception of the jewelled versions), can be worn easily and safely for dress or sport. Of course, some models and versions work better than others depending on the occassion or attire but Rolex design affords the wearer unequalled flexibility. As to the black dial/black bezel stainless steel Submariner, I consider it to be the ultimate timepiece with regard to flexibility, Rolex or otherwise. The SS black Sub goes great with everything from a tee shirt and jeans to a tux. Wear your Rolex with confidence and enjoy!

Any Rolex fits with a suit and tie, the Black Face Sub is an iconic Rolex, go for it.

A gentlemen seeking to embody elegance will wear a dressier watch as a Sub with a suit will not achieve his goal. Full-on tasteful elegance is better suited with a dressier watch.

For a Sub owner who will out and about looking good in a suit and tie, wearing the beloved Rolex is a great way to go and there should be absolutely no ambivalence.

If the suit, shirt and tie lean towards sporty or plainer style, then yes a sub is fine and within the realm. And I actually think a no date looks better than a cyclops with this type of suit. If you are wearing a BB type of sack suit with a polo button down, repp tie, then you have a better chance of pulling it off. If the suit is finer, shirt is finer etc. then I would say it looks a little forced and there are better options if available. Does that make sense?

I am personally not a huge fan of wearing a Sub with a suit. Having said that, I have done so myself, on a few occasions. A Sub does admittedly look better than many other tool watches worn with a suit. However, a DateJust (or similar) or a more traditional dress watch just works so much better in my opinion.

Wearing a Sub with a dinner suit (tux), on the other hand, is a criminal offence in sartorial terms, James Bond notwithstanding.
