I prefer the look of the no date version, or the date without the cyclops.

The cyclops is very much part of the public persona of a Rolex, so the Submariner Date is much more recognizable as a Rolex, whether that is a benefit depends on your priorities. For me, I like the no date version, since only Rolex connoisseurs seem to have them. It's not to say that WIS don't buy the Sub Date as well, but the buyers who know nothing about watches and are only buying Rolex for the brand will invariably choose the Sub Date over the No Date.

It will be a better investment than the date model Submariner because dealers typically order the nominally more expensive 'date' version.

I really do prefer on a 40mm Rolex to be a no date model.
The date & cyclops make the face look too busy & crowded to me

I need the date and rather like the cyclop on the crystal so I got the Sub date. I have two both with date.

Straight forward choice these days between the sub and sub date. Previously with the 14060M there was a bit more to consider especially when compared to the 11610.
Personal choice really. The earth doesn't stop turning just because you don't have a date on your watch. |

My further research indicates that - well this may be from the rumor mill, but the new sub will have a sapphire case back with the date in the back. This will be the best of both worlds also making the watch reversible.

for me, it seems harder to clean the xtal with the cyclops. don't like the way the dust gathers around it.
other than that, i repsect the fact that the cyclops being a rolex heritage. |

I get up in the morning and the first thing I do is watch the news. The day and date is clearly shown and announced. I read the paper most days, so here we have the day and DATE. Like most other folks I carry a cell with the day and the DATE displayed each time I use it.
If I cannot retain what day or DATE it is during my waking hours, I would be very worried. Checking with your Rolex date is just making your brain stagnant. I have learned to live a happy life sans the date on my watch |

When I was working, the date was handy; signing/dating things. Now that I am retired, I use both day and date...

I much prefer the ND version and will begin saving for it in the new year. I can't see the date even WITH my glasses on now without having to stare and focus by moving my left arm away from my eyes so it is a bit of a waste for me.

For me it's simply clean dial vs necessity of date function.

I've had several different Rolex models with the date and find that I wear my 14060 more than any of the others..I prefer the no date..
