Ehh, dunno about living there. It isn't a place I'd want to bring kids up in, and that's why I left. That's another story, though.

To answer the question,

Has your Rolex Helped you Get Women? ........well, no. But the woman I married definitely helped me get Rolex. Without her, I'd be asking strangers if they knew what time it was.

Okay, I realize this thread is getting tired but I want to add one more thing. Men and women who base their attractiveness and desirability on such shallow displays deserve each other.

"Your seatmate on the short yellow bus"!!

I think need to change my shorts as I might have pissed myself laughing so hard. That was GREAT!

Note to self, don't get in a verbal sparring match with Ged!

By the way, I agreed completely with your comments. Another turd for the pooper scooper!

Well, it could be confidence, or overall "style"...I guess you'd say the "whole package"...but I do know that I have had more than one lady comment on or admire my Rolex watches. And I think it adds to the whole package.

I think (in particular for a slightly younger lady) that it represents a certain level of stability, established, and financially secure, which is perceived through a Rolex (which is clearly an expensive luxury item), and not typically something that a young irresponsible unestablished man would/could spend that kind of $ on.

If you think about it, style, character, financial stability, suave, all add up to a certain level of "power". And power is seductive. From a certain perspective, Rolex represents that kind of power. It doesn't make a woman a material gold digger to notice this kind of power, or be attracted to it. Its just a factor that makes one attractive. On another level, I know several woman who are very attracted to young, unestablished, rough around the edges guys, too. That has its own intrigue.

I think that is what the original poster is trying to say...... :)

rgf, I reread the original post. You're definitely giving the benefit of the doubt to that guy. Personally, I disagree with his premise. It's simply not true that everything men do is for the purpose of getting women. That's a bit bizarre, in my opinion. If that's how he feels personally, I'd certainly stay as far away from him as possible, no matter how hard he tried to lure me in with Rolexes!

If a woman sees my Rolex while I am checking out the package in my daughter's diaper, while trying to figure out if it will hold another 10 or so pounds; and then wants to jump my bones.....well now we got something to talk about.

Wow - this thread really has developed, hasn't it? Since my earlier flippant contributions it has made fascinating reading. Like Lisa, I also have re-read the original thread and I, too, totally disagree with the assertion that everything men do is in some way driven by the search for a mate.

I'm an old guy now and probably 'past it'! When I'm pursuing my hobbies of photography, astronomy, gardening, vintage trains, fine wines and cookery the pursuit of women couldn't be further from my mind!! Anyway, my lovely wife of 36 years wouldn't like it - I wouldn't do anything to hurt her or undermine her trust in me and she's the boss!! Ok, ok, I know - old geezers are like that and we really don't count in the original hypothesis.

But, go back forty years, to before I met my wife, at around the time I bought my GMT. Why did I buy it? It certainly wasn't to pose or attract the girls - I just wanted a good, high quality, robust, waterproof, accurate watch. Yes I liked girls - loved them, in fact - and for the most part they seemed to like me, but lots of the stuff I did those days, like cycle racing, writing my thesis, going to the (football) match, working on my first old banger of a car had nothing to do with finding a girlfriend. All this stuff was just about living - giving myself a reasonable quality of life.

Look at primitive humans - or all animals for that matter. The hierachy of needs goes something like this: the first imperative is to survive - we need air (to breath), water, food, clothing and shelter, in that order. Reproduction comes after all these - if you're not fit, healthy and warm, nooky is a non-starter, irrespective of your gender. In modern society the first five essentials are assumed as being secured for everyone. But there are also other, higher-order needs, such as intellectual, artistic and social stimulation that we must all have. These - and the basic needs - still feature prominently in our repertoire of daily objectives and, for most people, they often feature more highly than sex.

People of both genders cover a wide spectrum of qualities and attitudes. There might be some men for whom sex is the ultimate goal behind everything they do and there just might be a small minority of women who are actually attracted to men who wear the 'right sort' of accessories. But, IMHO, these minorities are shallow and missing out a lot on the finer things of life. In my experience, for the majority of people accessories are just that - they might influence initial impressions, but true attraction is 99% about personality and values. Certainly, I wouldn't insult the many women that I have known in my life by suggesting that they were so shallow as to be attracted to a partner on the basis of accessories.

I don't know if this little rant of mine adds anything significant to this thread, but I've got my oar in!!

Stan.

on this post.

For any reality show or VH1 fans out there, I have three words that come to mind when reading stuff like this: Rock. Of. Love. The reality show starring Bret Michaels. That show is a train wreck of dumb/no-talent/rock star with more money than sense seeking dumb/talented stripper with no money and no sense.

When I met my wife I had the price of the bus fare home and no watch at all.

She tolerates my nonsense, Rolex and all. No other women comes close, not by a long way.

Pretty much the same here Paul. I didn't have a pot to piss in when I met my wife.

She's been with me through thick and thin, good times and bad. Now, we're both doing ok and I'm able to afford to do some nice things for her once in a while.

When I have the opportunity to buy her something nice, I think of alot of things she's been there for me for in the past and it brings a smile to my face.

Thing about it is, she gets just as excited over being surprised over a CD as a piece of jewelry.

She's the best in my book

A fine woman is a rarer find than a 6541 Milgauss and a PN 6265 down the back of a settee.

I identify with both your sentiments. My wife and I have shared so much and, as we've aged together and now have the wealth to do all the 'big' things, it's true that it's the little things - the little gifts and acts of thoughtfulness - that are now valued.

One thing, though, Paul - I'm not convinced that fine women are that rare - in my experience they are no more 'rare' than fine men are. There are lots of great people around - it is often the not-so-great that grab all the attention.
