Looks a lot better after seeing Hal's pictures. My first reaction right off was that it was terrible. It is slowly growing on me...

You cannot even compare the two companies…

Art of fusion? How about a full baguette nautilus, or dubuis, or rolex with rubies/diamonds etc..

Every company does it to some extent

The watch has grown on me. I am actually surprised, but it's a very nice design with some taste of the old, case plots and numerals. The grey could have a been a bit darker to make the dial pop a bit more or the gold pop, but overall I like it. I was worried about the diamond pushers, thankfully it's only one and goes pretty much unnoticed. I think this watch will be a success, price point is perfect!

Not following here... It's a gold case just like the 44mm Novelty. The Nov has a ceramic bezel, Lebron has a Ti bezel. Maybe the Nov has a LITTLE more gold, maybe it doesnt, but $51k for a RG LE AP its a nice price.

I am thinking AP invites their sponsees in and gives them a computer with a program on it that contains all the elements they have used on watches before in different colors, and then they let the sponsee put their watch together like a Mr. Potato Head...

Did anyone happen to catch the interview this morning on CNBC with LBJ? Hated on him pretty hard, but there was a cool animation video playing in the background of the watch being constructed on his wrist - I kinda threw up in my mouth a little when they added the diamonds to the pusher then slapped on that horrible strap...

Not a huge fan of LeBron but can't hate greatness and desire to succeed.

A little piece from CNBC http://www.cnbc.com/id/101059595

Great basketball player. Who cares about the watch? Ridiculous. I am sure they will sell all 600 of them.

Is lebron now a universally admired player?
My impression was that he's still somewhat polarizing to the general public.
Among basketball fanatics, he's likely to draw much hatred and vitriol among non-Miami heat fans.

I actually like the color combo... I also like the Schumi-Ti... I'm just not a big fan of LEs for people... At least this doesn't have his number on the dial or something silly like that...

I bet this will be a hit in Asia... He's really popular there, and spends 1/2 his offseason over there promoting for his various sponsors...

Guys,
Please understand this is for greater brand recognition. AP has been doing this for a very long time. Check out the Nick Faldo pieces. Hublot does not compare.

Not saying it wont grow on me?

But initial reaction is the strap does nothing for the watch.

Upstart Hublot has lured holy trinity AP into an arms race. How AP could be so stupid is beyond me. Can anyone imagine such behavior from PP or VC? I think not!

Not solid gold, for $51k?

I think what we've got here is marketing strategy in its most malignant form, that being "Celebrity"-based cult-of-personality based marketing.

I would not say this if the complications or the movement were innovative and guided by the philosophy of the celebrity in question, but I think it's clear (if it isn't please tell me) that these LEs are nothing more than different shades of makeup on the same beauty.

What exactly is the substance of Lebron's contribution? His promotional blurb mentions a commitment to innovation, but can this model really be described as innovative?

Valid points made. Don't think any innovation involved just make up over the same chronograph watch but as its LE price is inflated so that's what one is paying for to own a LE LBJ
