Just got a 16600 myself. M-serial and I absolutely love it! Got lucky with finding one in essentially brand new condition. I'm definitely going to love this one for a long time to come!

Great watch

I purchased a Z series 2nd hand with the full kit a few years ago for my son. This year I picked up an M with full kit that was NOS from a person in the northeast at a very reasonable price and put it away for a rainy day. Then I managed a trade with a person here on the forum for a D that needed a lot of work and is off getting that taken care of now. It had been abused a bit and some collector took the back off and allowed dust and dirt to get in the works. It's been my everyday tool watch and kept descent time despite the abuse. But it will be better after the service I'm sure.

Bought a P series from HQ Milton back in May, was in great shape. Took some time to get used to the bulk, even though I was used to wearing a rather large-ish old Citizen Aqualand. Now it feels great, the lack of a cyclops helps fly a bit under the radar as well.

Is likely overdue for a service, the power reserve isn't nearly what it is capable of but other than that the watch looked damn near brand new.

I had a 16600 Z. Sold it because everyone thought it was a sub and I have regretted selling it every day since.

Owned a 16600. Liked the proportions but the Rolex rattle charm is lost on me. Currently own the 116600. Super case proportions not as sexy. Still one of the most collectable modern Rolex.

I bought a 1992 SD 16600 in August. The AD told me it had been serviced by Rolex before sale but another employee told me the water seals wouldn’t be reliable anymore. Does anyone know how safe it is to swim with a SD this old?

Take it somewhere and have it tested. If you have proof a qualified service and a pressure test I wouldn't worry.

I agree with what has been said.

It doesn't matter what an employee says, they frequently don't know. If you have proof that a service was performed, good, if they do not provide proof, it doesn't mean a thing.

Have it pressure tested for your own peace of mind, or have it serviced yourself so that you know it's fresh.

It's nice to see that this thread is still active after so many years. I love SD's and the history of it, sealab, comex, Trieste, JC, and have a M series, 16600 that I absolutely love, a 116600, last "in pure tradition = 40mm case, no Cyclops date" but with all the modern Rolex features, modern clasp, ceramic bezel fully graduate, Cerachrom lume, not to mention, a relatively rare bird, been discontinued after only 3 short years.. Truly a beautiful watch... But also a 116660 D blue, and the latest 126600 (SD43, bought in 2017 for my 50th Bday, and as controversial as this ref maybe, it is the watch I wear the most. It seems like I can't get these SD's out of my system...

I bought my sea-dweller in 2000 2nd hand from a watch shop in Bond Sreet London. It is the A series, it came with a box, and a leather pouch with an anchor and tool and a spare link.
I dug out my receipt yesterday to check the serial number and then checked online, it says the A series was brought out in 1999, so my watch must have been fairly new when I bought it.

A Sea-Dweller 16600 (purchased from AD in 2005) was the first Rolex I ever owned. I don’t know if it is because of the fact it is my first Rolex but I honestly think it is the best watch I have ever owned or worn.

Hyphen centered over tick?

Hi all,

I vaguely remember there being a resource that talked about which 16660 dials had the "SWISS - T<25" hyphen exactly centered over the 30 minute mark v.s. those dials that had the hyphen slightly to the right of the 30 minute mark.

Does anyone know which dials (and why) there were two different alignments for the SWISS - T<25 printing?

(I'm specifically interested in the >Mk2 dials, but any idea about this is more than welcomed)

Thanks!
