Would be pretty funny if your boss is a member of this forum.

22 years old, been in the company for 1˝ years and my boss doesnt even wear a watch. Came to work with a Seiko and my colleage wanted to see it and the week after I had recieved my Root Beer and he lost his words Otherwise only other colleague with watch interest wears an Omega SMP (beautiful) and he saw the Rolex within 3 seconds. I havent really recieved any crappy comments from colleagues, they understand why I bought it. But friends, friends. Oh boy, thats another story. But sitting with the boss and telling him he is paying me way too little considering the work I do, wearing a TT Rolex, felt a bit wrong. Casually hide it a little bit |

Everyones being a little crazy here - most rolexes when compared persons yearly salary are not "large" sums of money (precious metals excluded).
If your boss is an enthusiast he won't judge how you spend your earnings. He could likely afford one, his priorities are just in different places. A few of my nurses rock reasonable high end watches (one has a nautilus, one w/an AP, etc). Watches are culturally important to them and important enough to finance and enjoy for years on end. I don't judge, don't fire, and certainly don't hold them in any lower esteem - we both appreciate the same things. |

If he is sensitive, he might feel belittled and that is no good for your career

Funny we are in the same predicament but I finally got over with this problem. When I bought my 114060, I was afraid to wear it at work since I am the newest employee in the lab and all my coworkers including my boss are in their 60's ( I was 30 turning 31 yrs old that year). They all wore 20-50 dollar plastic watches from Walmart so I was hesitant to wear my brand new sub. Then one day it hit me, I realized I worked hard for my money in an honest way and I never ask money from them anyway so why bother with other people's perception so now I happily wear my sub everyday to work. I even fold my lab gown long sleeves so I could see my watch all the time.
