Interesting that this is still going. There was a similar thread this summer about a guy - same op? Can't remember who had an issue taking pics at a public market. If memory serves one vendor got up in his grill for taking shots.

Probably a bit of an over reaction. Do you get offended when you go to write a check at the store and they ask for an ID? You can't take it personally when the person making you feel offended doesn't even know you, much less know you well. Now, if this was a life long buddy or family member who would think you might use the pictures to commit some internet fraud or whatever then you should feel offended.

All is well that ends well, can we now see the pics or do I have to add more watches on the "Lady"?

Lady in this case of course the Spirit of Ecstacy.

No pictures, I was so upset I erased them. Now, although I thought the idea was cool, many might think I was an "elitist". You are bold, my friend, I was only pointing at the grille with my watch, I would never have the ba**s to hang the watch on the grille.

I would suggest TRF members give advice or their own points of view, not scorn or contempt when people post. This is not a site for jealous or contemptuous people. Humor is one thing but to try and make members uncomfortable or angry is just wrong. What happened to just appreciating each other's watches and experiences? If this continues, I will no longer be a part of the site.

To make a long story short, while I was taking the picture from the sidewalk, the owner came running out and began yelling at me. I tried to explain why I was taking a picture, but he told me to give him my phone to erase the picture. I told him I was a simple doctor that wanted to take a special picture. He went on and on about how the picture will probably end up on an auto internet site, and he still wanted my phone. Since I was on a public sidewalk, I told him to go f*** himself! and walked away.
I don't know if it was his demeanor or my reaction to being yelled at after spending years of sacrifice to gain the respect I feel I have earned. (Or maybe I was mad, because I felt like punching him in the mouth.) Was I over-reacting?
Did you overreact? Nope. The guy was a prick.

Can the beatings stop yet? It is very easy to judge people on the internet. A lot harder to try to understand them, or show compassion.

I've made posts on other sites that elicited animosity. Maybe my posts were not well-articulated, but the over-reaction taught me something about human nature and the tendency to turn on each other at the slight scent of blood. And I'm a nobody.

I hope we don't drive away a positive contributor to this site. That would be sad.

John,

I was honoring the request to end the thread as the OP stated he resolved the issue with the over-reacting car owner, but since you felt obliged to add your 2c, here's mine from the other side of the coin:

There was no turning on anyone. The OP said some very stupid things and got called out for it. The rant promoted the stereotype that Rolex owners are pretentious, self-entitled snits; something that is not at all a "positive contribution" for this site. I normally don't spend time posting on those ("don't say anything unless you have something good to say"), but this one was a bit over the top.

I've never known TRF to be a hand-holding support group, although there is quite a bit of that given the common bond we all share. That said, if you post opinions or ask for them, it is quite likely you will not hear back what you are wanting to hear, since we are from diverse backgrounds. The poster should respect that others may not feel as they do and be willing to accept that fact. If you like, I will demonstrate by starting a fresh "Who likes Bark?" thread. Those are always good for strong opinions.

The quality of mercy is not strained.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blessed:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest.

Merchant of Venice, Shakespeare. Of maybe it is strained here.

So he "said some very stupid things." Maybe, maybe not, but hasn't everybody? All I'm saying is, can we let it go now? I felt obliged to step in as you put it because of yet another attack. You seem like a nice guy, Bark, so this isn't personal. Maybe we could just call a cease-fire.

The guy throws around, and I am paraphrasing "oh yeah, where do you go to school?"

I'm sorry, but what kind of person/adult does that? What is next, my dad can beat up your dad? He comes across as the douche that he is. Ooh, he went medical school, maybe. Who cares? So some guy goes to medical school and he is now entitled to be a poser in front of other people's property?

Have been on both ends of this and in all cases it's a just don't touch policy. Don't sweat it Doc! Whichever end I find myself or if a situation gets messy I just send the wife in to do the "Dirty Work" as I mostly prefer to stay inside and play with my watches

the guy was nuts. If he doesn't want people taking pics of it then he should keep it in his garage or not park it.

if you were sitting on the fender snapping selfies then I would be pissed too but this was obviously not the case

why should he be required to park in a garage to keep folks from taking pics?

i believe it would be considered his private property extending all the way to the street/sidewalk, doesn't yours?
