I can hear this as well, It is louder on my two rolex but the clearest is on my Ikepod Hemipode. It rings like a bell!

Interesting. My ear doesn't pick up any of the echo on my 114060... just the light melodic tick.

Not long after I bought my first Rolex, my Explorer, I lay down on my couch and had my arm supporting the pillow upon which my head was resting.

That's the sound I heard and, well frankly, I thought I was losing my mind.

I'd never heard a watch sound like that before and I'm from an age when mechanical watches were the only choice.

That's the reason I often remove my watch when I go to bed.

Listening to the sounds a movement makes is exactly how a timegrapher works, By timing the sounds like the pallet fork hitting the stops or the escape wheel being locked and unlocked by the pallet fork it calculates in real time what is going on inside your watch.

That sound you recorded from your Rolex is mesmerizing and quite amazing ! Very Cool !

Does it have to do anything with accuracy? I mean, can the sound be used to understand the efficiency of the escapement or something along these lines? (well I know sound is somewhat used in a timegrapher, but I mean use it not to check global accuracy but to verify whether there are losses in efficiency due to resonances etc etc).

All this being said it would be nice to have a sound library of different watches. Do you have any friend with an El Primero, or a Nautilus etc etc???

Great thread. Thanks! My Air King emits a higher tone. Maybe the 34mm case resonates differently?

Okay, I've been driving myself crazy hearing this tsk, tsk, tsk every once in a while... searching around my chair trying to find it's source thinking it couldn't be my brand new 116610.

Finally got so loud it was obviously the watch.

Up to my ear I hear the hum heard in the OP's video,
but I also hear that fast tick sound from >20" away and only a handful of times a day. It's faster than a second by second sound, and it only happens when the face is close to perpendicular to the ground.

Is this normal?

I've never heard a watch loud enough to catch my attention from that far away, including a 1980s DD, multiple Pateks, Cartier, etc.

Don't worry, you'll hear less and less as you get older.

First to go are frequencies of your wife's voice!

One of my favorite sounds... Hear it through my pillow on the rare occasion I fall asleep with my SubC or SD4K on...

Maybe we should take the whole "watch sings to you" thing more literally.

Very cool As soon as I listened to the recording, it reminded me of a tune by Adam Johnson called Four Squares

Amazing my friend. Thank you for posting. I hear exactly the same sounds when I put my rolexes to my ear. Agree ...it is a symphony of sounds that may not be apparent at first !

Best regards

Well, sir, that should be the Rolex watchmaker's theme song!

And, again, this thread should be a sticky!
