For me I would go for all steel sports model.
1. Submariner (sea)
2. GMT Master 2 (air)
3. Explorer (land)

(AIR) GMT watches were originally designed for pilots showing local and Greenwich Mean Time (the zero point on 24 hour scale of international timezones).

(SEA) The Submariner is certainly a diving watch as we all know.

(LAND) The rolex daytona was designed in 1963 dedicated to racing drivers (right off Rolex.com - so no need to put a question mark there).

I suppose you could add Yachtmaster to cover a boating watch for on the water (where Submariner is a diving watch for under water).

For Four watches a Holy Quaternary with four different PMs
1) WG SubC - Diving/Underwater
2) YG GMT II - Pilot/Air
3) RG Yachtmaster - Sea/Boating
4) Platona - Racing/Land

(or Use YG SubC w/ BLRO - maintains all of the above)

Thanks for clarification!

I do pretty well so within 2 years I could complete this trilogy.
Here is what makes this special IMO.
a. WG, YG and PT (one of each)
b. A Diver Watch, Chrono Watch and a GMT Watch (one of each)
c. All sports watches
d. New models only
e. All Rolex of course

So here it is:
My Rolex Holy Trinity
(Because one grail watch is just NOT enough).

1. WG Rolex Sub 116619LB Smurf (owned)
2. YG Rolex GMT Master II 116718 (not owned yet) - Black Dial
3. Platinum Daytona 116506 (not owned yet) - Ice Blue Dial

What would you add/subtract/change to make the ultimate 3 piece Rolex Sports Watch Collection? New models only please...

Thought I would resurrect this thread. Really liked reading and seeing the posts from Forum members.

To play by the OP's rules, I would still go with my original trio of:

Submariner Date 116618 LB (sunburst)
Cosmograph Daytona 116505 (pink dial)
GMT Master II 116719 BLRO

My own personal Rolex precious metal holy trinity would be:

Day-Date 118238 (white dial, president bracelet)
GMT Master II 116718 (green dial)
Submariner Date 116618 LB (sunburst dial)

I would swap the WG Sub for the YG Sub (blue dial) and the GMT for the WG GMT.

As do you, my friend.

If I did not love the Day-Date that much, I would have chosen an Everose Gold Daytona with pink dial to round out my Rolex holy trinity.

Substituting a Day Date for GMT, mine would be

WG Chronometer
116509 Meteorite Daytona

YG Day Date
228238 President Champagne Roman 40mm

Pt 100m "Diver"
16622 Yacht-Master

Thanks Eric for bringing the thread back to life.
I think you have three great choices even if a bit outside the parameters of the thread.
Not sure if I will end up with my original plan, but I have to say I still like those original three I picked.
I like your green dial GMT, my current favorite YG Rolex.
And of course the Platona is off the charts and probably my all around favorite Rolex at this point in time.

I own 2 of your 3 holy trinity watches (Smurf and Platona), and I agree with your choice for the 3rd. The yellow gold GMT is beautiful but not for me; I own the SS ceramic GMT instead.

I'd go for the WG BLRO first, love a GMT and the reference to the historic piece. My second has to be the iceblue stick dial DJ platinum, 36mm, simple classic, an afficinado choice. The next is a bit tricky, I'm between the Platona and the YG Daytona. I think the Chromo wears the yellow quite well without being overwhelming, like the YG GMT or Sub brothers. On the other hand I do prefer a "silver" look, as I feel it's compliments my shades of grey and black outfits. If I want to spend money, I would look into serious historic pieces or consider a Bamford as well
