Posts like this scare me. I got my GMT from a forum seller and even though I had it appraised, it is still scary. Plus, there are fake watches out there that cost $1200+ that look damn near perfect, movement and all. It's strange. I can rationalize that the seller is amazing and that it was appraised at a very reputable place, but my brain is still 0.01% worried. This reminds me, I need to refill my xanax Rx

Yes, a friend of mine got a real 14K gold and stainless, but counterfeit Submariner from TJ. A few months later he was in a pawn shop, not even for the purpose of selling anything, just browsing to buy, while wearing it. The pawn shop owner twisted his arm to sell him the watch, which my friend had bought from TJ for $1100., and it came in a green Rolex box with amazing looking papers. The pawn shop owner paid him $3600. after some negotiation. I don't condone what happened at all, but the value of the story is simply how good these fakes may be sometimes.

My friend said that he kept saying no no I don't want to sell it, because he assumed that the guy would know right away that it was fake after examining it closely, but that just made the pawn shop owner more insistent on buying it.

Another time someone tried to sell me a Datejust and I took it to a pawn shop to have it checked before paying. The seller wasn't a crook, he had just somehow acquired it, and he knew that I am interested in watches, so he let me have it before paying. The pawn shop guy, whom I did not know but was just doing me a favor, looked it over and said, it is genuine. I insisted that he open it up, and he really didn't want to, after all, what did he get out of the deal, nothing, but he was a nice guy and did open it, and there it was, Made in China, on the interior. He was flabbergasted. The look, weight everything about that Datejust was perfect.

The point being that must be careful.

This did not help my anxiety. I don't think the appraiser opened the case.

The web pic with the stock 10:10 showing on the dial that "was taken 40 minutes ago LA time" was hilarious.

Was really looking forward to the GTG the OP was organizing...

The Daytona in the OP's post didn't look anywhere near real.

I looked at the post earlier and thought the Daytona looked funny, but it was the subdials that caught my attention. They were way shinier than others I'd seen and I thought Rolex had fixed that.

Later, I read the post calling it out and got close enough to the screen to see the coronet and it was the kind you see on the worst counterfeits that are made.

I'm not saying that some fakes can't fool people, just that that wasn't one of them.

What a turd,

Like people have said, to come out of nowhere and lay that collection down is a bit suspect and in one's face.

I cannot envisage a situation where a guy has 6 genuine pieces and one hooky ticker. They would all have been Canal Street specials.

Shameful excuse for a man.

I had already booked my flights. Man.

But seriously. I would not have even thought about a fake Daytona 500 already. But I guess the fakes were probably out before the real ones ever hit the AD's.

This was one of the best and funniest threads I've seen here in a long time. Just hilarious how a lot of knowledgeable members called the guy out, then his offer to GTG with the drinks on him and finally, his admission that he tried to pass off a fake Daytona as real. You gotta wonder what the guy is like in real life. Probably low self esteem and not the most honest guy.

He's probably a con artist. Can't think of a reason why he would organize a gtg to show off his fakes. I bet he would of tried to offer a very attractive trade on the spot or do a switcheroo if someone had the same reference as his.
