My 16710 is not unpolished and it has no box nor papers - but I enjoy it still. :)

A very fine example of a 16710 and the pics are not bad either

I tend to agree as well. From my understanding reading experiences on here lug holes are preferred if you want to put it on a nato.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately?) I cannot wear the new 904l bracelets very long due to a nickel allergy but would understand the allure of such a bracelet swap. Although in practice I cannot fault the old style bracelet especially once the little tweaks are know to make it fit tighter, its very comfortable.

These things aren't worth 8000.00. Fools and their money proven once again. HQ Milton always has an excellent selection.

I'm actually wearing mine today. I bought it off of TZ, back when they only had one Rolex section and most of the knowledgeable guys posted there frequently.

Well they do...but often "vintage" and very well-loved. Note - even for more modern pieces they do t often offer box / papers if that's important to you.

On the hunt for an unpolished GMT 16710!

Is Y serial the last 16710 series with lug holes?

It's somewhat odd. It almost seems like that's the niche that they have chosen to occupy. On the other hand, their watches often have some of the most "honest" and nice cases that you're likely to find.

Early have them, later don't. It's the serial where they transitioned.

I can't understand why anyone would want to spend a weekend at the airport, but I guess... it takes all kinds.

Finally if we are assessing if something is over valued, we have to look at the value itself. There are very few Rolexes right now you could buy and next year sell for more. The 16710 is one and that's why it is undervalued and appreciating.
Yes, they sure appear to have increased of late. Last year I bought a
2005, un-polished 16710 complete set for £3,750 from a dealer in the U.K.
But now the prices just seem to keep going up and up.

I have not seen many available for sale recently. Any advice on finding one? I have tried the for sale forums, emailed davidsw and takuya, and i look reguarly at watchrecon.

They save the hunt is half the fun. I hope that's true

Question, I am looking at a used GMT too. Any trick to determine if a watch has been polish or not?

Thx

C'mon now, you know what I meant. No airport is or ever will be worthy of a weekend but the city of San Francisco sure is.

Nothing special about a gmt. Look at watches which you know are unpolished. After you see enough, it's pretty easy to tell.

Unless you're buying it directly from the original owner and he assures you it's never been polished, I would just assume that it's been polished somewhere along the way. Most "trusted sellers" on the forum will have the watch given at least a light polish before listing it for sale.

Polishing is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as it's done right and not too frequently. I bought my 10-year old 16710 from the original owner, and it had never before been serviced or polished. The first thing I did was take it to Rik Dietel for a complete overhaul and it came back looking brand new.

I've been watching the prices of the 16710 really increase over the past couple years.

I think the popularity of the watch is because of it's versatility in being able to change 3 different bezels. Also, having the third hand complication is great for people who travel or even just want a different look to their watch over the classic Sub.

You get more "bang for the buck" with the GMT II than any other Rolex in my opinion.

I think he charges $550, just a bit less than an RSC. Includes movement servicing and case/bracelet refinishing. I also bought a new bezel insert, which added another $100 or so.
