Well imagine my surprise today when a man had a Omega bag and I asked what he had gotten and he showed me his wrist and a PM gold daycare was there.

I agree there are two type of owners, the owners that no nothing bout the watch and the owners that no everything about the watch, you cannot tell who is who so you cannot reach out

only for vintage rolexes then i will say something.

saw a shopkeeper or owner at a small wine shop, he was wearing a 1675, given by his dad. nice piece

a old gentleman and his wife on the train, wearing a 1675 as well, was his first rolex till today. he's about 60+? pretty awesome.

U R Killn' Me!
its way better than what happened to me yesterday.

i was walking in knightsbridge (central london) and some random guy came up and whispered in my ear "you are a very lucky man" as we were passing on the street and that was it. No context, nothing. Im assuming he was referring to my 5524. However it creeped me out and especially so if he was talking about something else. I wondered about it all day.

Yes just a small gniffle each way and a ;-) would do the trick . Thats the most natural way to respond!!!

If i for example would see you passing by the end of the road with ur Rollie on the wrist i would :

no without a joke, most people wearing a Rolex are dumb folks , or shady business guysg in my country really…. I think most people will not like to be associated with them…… But yes, i love that watches so i wear it for my self)

I generally try not to look at another mans piece, but if I just happen to notice it would be rude not to give a compliment right?

I would never bother trying to interact with a Rolex owner, its like going up to someone in a BMW X3 thinking they're a car enthusiast...

As it was Knightsbride it was probably the watch, altho as you are six and a half foot tall if it was a woman it would have been about something else.

I am always friendly towards other watch enthusiasts, and as I appreciate all kind of watches will strike up a conversation if possible and appropriate under the circumstances. Rolex is actually the most awkward brand to discuss, as some wearers bought their model "just because" it's Rolex and have no watch IQ whatsoever. Some want to just tell you how much they paid. Overall Patek, AP, and JLC wearers seem to be uniformly more engaged/involved in their brands and fun to chat with about watches in general.

Interesting.. a guy called me out a couple days ago.. I was chatting with the chap who had just cleaned my windows, I was working under the bonnet/hood of the car, he asked me "is that watch as expensive as it looks?" I replied, "yes, and i'm crazy I know..I shouldn't working on the car".. I took it off for him to look at examine and he spent a few mins chatting about his Rolex anecdote while studying it.. I only told him its' value because he asked - and he agreed i'm crazy working on the car! (I did leave it off for the remainder of the time on the car lol)..

That's how that went.. he didn't wear a watch himself..

My wife did that recently at a wedding. The groom was wearing an invicta that largely resembled my Sub. It was cringe worthy.
