The ONLY reason why the SS BLRO is a hot seller is price point. Simple as that.

You got guys lining up at ADs for $9k but when we talk about $30k that line becomes pretty much 0.

With the BLRO my understanding was that there was a problem with the NRE costs and the only way to recoup that was by manufacturing more due to lack of volume WG sales. I don't believe it's the same with the smurfs.

I have to wonder how much they're recouping with the new Pepsi, given how scarce the model is, but that's a different matter.

My thought is Rolex will not simply do a movement upgrade in the existing Sub line without introducing one or more new options to spark interest. I'm trying to imagine what they might do that's new, and a blue SS Sub that isn't a straight up clone of the WG Smurf is one idea I find plausible. Maybe it will happen, or maybe it will be an elusive fantasy like a ceramic Coke; but I don't find it an outlandish idea in theory.

Amortization of NRE costs of a different model isn't a factor, imo. Indeed, a new color would have its own development costs, but that's what Rolex is in business to do. And from that standpoint, a blue SS Sub would be a pretty bankable return on investment, if the interest on this forum is anything to go by.

there won't be a coke bezel on a sub imo. rolex applied a double coloured bezel on a gmt for a reason, to represent day an night. markings on a sub is just for measuring time. anyway, I would like to have a new sub with blue bezel and silver dial.

This all reads like a fairy story.

At Basel this year Rolex will release models that have been in their manufacturing design pipeline for a long time.

These will also end up as models that the average punter will not have easy access to based on the history of years gone by.

But I am impressed with the enthusiasm shown here.

That goes without saying. How does it work against the idea of a blue SS Sub?

As the owner of a YG Sky Dweller, I thought the same thing. I was extremely surprised when they issued the SS version just months after purchasing the gold reference. I really thought the PM Sky Dweller was destined to take over the Day Date as Rolex’s flagship model with the complications and all. I also own a Smurf and don’t particularly want a SS variant, but Rolex has proven that it has no loyalty to it’s customers who shell out thousands of dollars to purchase precious metal watches. I guess only time will tell.

I also REALLY REALLY hope they dont introduce a blue SS Sub, having just bought the Smurf myself!

If you want a Smurf, then you have to buy a PM one. They will not make an SS version with blue in it.

Rolex does not need to make more money via new models, they cant even keep up with existing demand let alone stoking that fire harder.

I know!!! I remember when you bought that. It looks great on you Len. I’m thinking Rolex can barely keep up with demand as it is. They don’t need to introduce a new model. I believe they will keep the same models and just update the movements. Happy new year Len

Happy New Year buddy. Your Smurf looks absolutely mint, like the day the gods presented it to us. I guess that's the upside of having a rotation..

I'd wager that they'd sharp discontinue the Hulk if they brought out a SS Smurf.

Just my opinion, and a complete guess.

You are, in essence, agreeing with me. The WG beauty would become a hot seller at a SS pricepoint.

On a slight tangent but I took my Smurf in to a RSC in Central London today, the main one for London, just for them to give it a quick eyeball if there was anything it needed and they said they rarely ever see them. They see yg and rg PM pieces all the time but hardly ever any of these. I'm quite sure its the price point thats the factor.

Bought mine very recently, a used V serial with Rolex service history. I took advantage of excessive steel prices and was able to top up and get into the PM. To me its gorgeous...

I think that is why they decided to put jubilee bracelet. I guess they can create a sunburst dial and jubilee bracelet smurf type thingy.

Hulk becomes WG
Smurf becomes SS

This. People even argument that the 126710 does not have the same colour as the WG...

I might be mistaken but seems like total nonsense to me. Have only seen the WG in display however tbh.

On topic. Maybe they will release a LB on jubilee

The blue SS would attract we however. The LV does not do anything for me nor does the regular sub. Always wanted a blue pelagos but can simply not pull it of with my wrists and my wallet cannot handle a WG smurf.

This idea came up right after Basel announcements last year (maybe happened the year prior too, but I wasn't around here then). I still hold the same sentiment as when that idea first floated around. I'd love one. I'm sure there are a lot of us who would be trying to get on the phone with their AD the moment something like this gets announced.

In order not to upset current smurf owners, the new sub will have a dark purple dial and bezel. Barney!

Rolex already has the deep purple in DJ 31, only need to make the bezel match.
