So you think you know more than Rolex about their business model? Rolex wants to produce exclusive luxury watches. And they are succeeding. Why would they change?

Get on the Royal Oak list at an AP boutique. Wait time for a stainless Royal Oak gray or black dial should be about 8 months right now at a boutique and you’ll only pay MSRP no markups.
I was just called by my AP boutique to purchase a black dial 15500 Royal Oak in stainless but turned it down since I already have a blue dial 15400. Whether you go with an AP Royal Oak, a Tudor, a Patek, JLC, etc. doesn’t really matter. What matters is you’re opening your horizons beyond the same old boring Rolexes and exploring new areas of this hobby that you otherwise never would have. I had 5 Rolexes at one point and the best thing I ever did was get rid of them and then really get into this hobby. I can’t emphasize how underwhelmed I feel anytime I see a Rolex in the wild with an unaware owner who believes there’s nothing better out there and they’re wearing it as a status symbol falsely believing it represents the pinnacle of success, when in reality, it’s just a good tool watch. Mathis Rolex availability crisis is the best thing to happen to the watch industry. So many people are now discovering so many better watches out there that would have otherwise been ignored by the masses. Like Grand Seiko and Zenith, boy do I want one badly! |

OP, sucks no AD (especially given you are in Switzerland) has the watch you want but plenty of hot SS models can be had from the grey sellers at a premium. Unfortunately for us, this is the current situation. If this is not acceptable to you, buy a less coveted SS Rolex or go with a different brand. I get your frustration, but being upset about it won't make the watch you want available at the AD. Pre-owned an option for you at all? I just picked up a nice 1675 and 16660 to enjoy every day, they are so much more comfortable to wear and enjoy compared to my 6 digits subs and GMTs

As a observation on metal used. Gold is heavy and not everyone would find a 220 gram watch comfortable. This is a real factor on a long vacation where you might only take one watch.
SS feels just as solid but at a much more manageable weight. |

omega makes great watches but if someone wants a rolex telling them to go buy an omega watch will not solve anything. their style is completely different imo. not a great suggestion when paying this much money
