Just got caught up. Again, appreciate everyone's thoughts and comments. Some great suggestions have been made
I've put a lot of thought into this the last 24 hours. I've set aside 7 (maybe 8) that I can live without. Going to think about it some more over the weekend but am thinking I may trade them towards either a PM or SS Daytona. I will post some pics of the watches on the chopping block tomorrow or Sunday and keep this thread updated. Thanks again to all my like minded, enabling brethren on TRF |

Keep every single GMT - you have an incredible Rolex GMT collection - it is clearly a strong interest and an excellently curated focal point of your collection.
Every timepiece that is NOT a GMT in this photo looks like prime contenders to consolidate into a single piece that you would enjoy more: |

I could get that down 4 without hesitation:
Submariner 114060 Hulk Smurf Pepsi on Jubilee And then I would add a Day Date or Date Just. |

If I can sum up what you said. It is simply a fear of looking back and regretting selling that one watch that you didn’t wear much but only to look at it once in a while. A FOMO if that watch becomes valuable in the future or for whatever other reasons. Do you have the same mentality with clothing, shoes or cars? I can’t imagine someone buying something expensive like a watch or a car or whatever just to look at it once in a while. I still respect your right to decide what you do with your watches. It’s your money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Keep the pelican case as that’s clearly how you grouped them, and I agree!

no concern about value involved Where I get some of my pleasure is in the enjoyment I get from looking at it, that could be in the box or on my wrist Yes I have bought motorcycles and other things with a similar view. Just to revel in the sheer enjoyment of looking at them. Enjoying how they were constructed and what the end result was. Not necessarily using them but once per year Some ‘collectors’ are just weird that way not clothes or shoes though, I do my best to get by without wearing much

In all honestly you have one heck of a collection. With some amazing variety and very cool pieces. Just keep them all and enjoy!!!!! But if you must sell some, I would go through and start selling what I least wear regardless of how much you like them. Because to me, watches are for wearing and if they are getting little or no wrist time, then they must go!!

What a great collection. I feel the same way you do about your Explorer II. If I had 30 watches the Explorer II would still get the bulk of my wrist time. So as not to feel too overwhelmed, I would target one watch to sell, sell it, then re-evaluate. I completely get the psychology of it. It's hard to sell one even if it gets little to no wrist time because we get attached to them. I'm in the process of scaling back a 5 Rolex collection and I'm struggling as well. Good luck with your decision(s).

Time to consolidate a bit. You definitely need a RO and a PP. That should help you decide to sell a few of the watches you now have. Some would say to consolidate to a PM, but you may not be comfortable wearing pm. I am not.

Where to start?
First off, wonderful collection! Great choices. When you look at the collection all in one shot, there appears to be some themes and patterns. I totally get why you have a BLNR BLRO and LN, it’s like having different color pants. I get it. Here is what I would suggest, start by wearing the ones you never wear, for a day or two, and after the day or two, make the final decision, one-by-one. If you spend the days thinking about the others, a few or one specific, it will be easy. If you see the charm come back to your eyes, you will know that one is a keeper. Things will be clear to you on Day 2. The wholesale, bulk liquidation approach, while logical, is not going to work, as many of the watches have some memory, experience or purpose. Take them for one last ride, make sure you know you are ready to part with them. Good luck! |

So after some thought here's what I'm leaning towards.
Sell/Trade: Omega Speedmaster Racing Omega GSTOM Omega Aqua Terra Rolex Milgauss Rolex Explorer Rolex 16710 Tudor Black Bay Chrono Then add a Daytona (still unsure what reference) and pocket whatever cash is left over. Going to think about it for a couple more days before I start shopping around and talking with dealers. |

What I would do.
Keepers Rolex Smurf, Hulk, Batman, SD, Pepsi Omega Aqua and one other Get rid of everything else and get a couple PM or branch out to a different brand or two (PP, AP, AL). |

That is a very well-thought-out plan that will achieve your goal.

Nah, I like the Tudor. It's cheap, reliable, fun to wear and despite the bezel color, it's quite different then the 126710, IMO. As mentioned above I'm leaning towards selling the 16710 so I'd be left with the modern Rolex GMT and the Tudor GMT. Also, I bought the Tudor GMT about 2 months before my son was born with the intention to give it to his someday (assuming he's into watches.)

First - awesome collection.
My issue comes down to redundancy - I know a lot of collectors will have multiple variations of one models line ie: Submariner and GMT. I personally like to have one piece to field the void for each variation. One dress, one chronograph, one GMT, one dive watch etc. Have your favorite examples of each piece. Yes I'm sure at a certain point you could justify two GMT's or a SS and a PM Sub etc. There's also the other question: which pieces do you actually wear? I personally have a rule that if I don't wear it I sell it for something that will get proper wrist time.

I would reconsider selling the 16710, however. That is an ascending and forever popular reference and if you change you mind, the cost of reacquiring could be much more down the road. That's the reference to hand down to your son if he shows interest. The Tudor GMT is not the same... Good work! |

If I wanted a chrono in the collection, I'd keep the Speedmaster Racing rather than add a diminutive Daytona, especially given the current cost of acquiring one...
I'd def keep the Tudor GMT, purely because I find it more attractive than it's modern Rolex brethren, and it's more fun and versatile across a variety of straps.

I have found my sweet spot is 2 watches. Anything more and I quickly start to play favorites and only a couple get regular wear. Good luck!
